Just call him Austin!! This “most happy fella” with the beautiful face is healthy, active and reducing his excess weight with a lot of exercise. A deworming and treatment for his skin rash have brought the spring back to this Springer.
Austin’s foster mom is keeping him on an anti-itch medication and a prescription diet for skin allergies, just in case his nicely healing rash was due to allergies. His sores and bald spots are better and his fur is growing back.
Austin eats his food regularly, but does not beg for treats and his thyroid levels are good. AND, with the loss of just five more pounds, Austin will be in wonderful shape…he has to chase a few more squirrels to work it off!
This handsome guy is a quick learner, having mastered the art of walking on leash easily. His foster mom reports that he just walked off leash for the first time and did a great job following voice commands, in spite of teasing by those pesky rodents. Austin also loves to play fetch and will even engage the cat in play if his humans are busy.
What a long way Austin has come in less than a month! This boy is ready for his furever home and will bring much joy and happiness to a family during the upcoming holiday season. Ready to play fetch with your very own Springer? Ask about Roger today, but be prepared to call him Austin!
Original: “Whether you call him Roger or Austin, this well-behaved pup promises to be a sweet and loving companion.”
After his owner in North Carolina passed away, poor Roger found himself in a shelter. A kind volunteer offered to foster him until he could join MAESSR. All of these changes have been very confusing to him, as must be an apparent name change along the way. It seems that for his entire life, “Roger” has answered to the name “Austin.”
So, Austin it is in his MAESSR foster home where he is adjusting quite well. He is housetrained and well-behaved; there is no trash diving, counter-surfing, resource guarding or inappropriate chewing for this welcome guest. His preference is to snooze on a couch, preferably next to a human. At night, sharing the couch with the cat suits Austin just fine! It appears that he is not crate trained, but he is free to roam the house because he is trustworthy.
Friendly with other dogs in his house, Austin will playfully chase toys and gladly share them with his new canine friends. He loves his people and has an endearing habit of sitting on his hindquarters while raising front paws to get his foster mom’s attention.
Walking on a leash is a work in progress. While Austin follows basic commands and is friendly to all dogs and people he meets, watch out for that pull when he spots a squirrel! Car rides make Austin a bit nervous but, because he loves to be with people, he tolerates being in a vehicle without any issues.
Austin has a few extra pounds on him but daily walks and chasing squirrels are getting him in shape. This happy boy’s energy level has increased each day in foster care. He arrived with a nasty skin rash, likely due to matted fur. This made a recent grooming experience rather traumatic for him, and he required sedation. His rash is improving and Austin loves to have his back scratched. A good brushing is appreciated, as well.
This sweet boy has had the misfortune of losing his owner. He’s ready, however, for the next chapter in his life and the next special person to share it with. Whether you call him Roger or Austin, this well-behaved pup promises to be a sweet and loving companion.
