Robbie was relinquished to a shelter in Pennsylvania when his owner found his work schedule left Robbie home alone too much. When MAESSR learned about his need for a new home, he was quickly delivered to his foster home.
This active, upbeat pup with a full tail has been good with everyone he has met. While he hasn’t met children yet, his foster mom plans on arranging for that; she suspects that he would be fine with dog-savvy school-aged children given his personality. Robbie is good with his foster sisters and brother although, if he is pushed, he will stand up for himself. He is good with cats, which he mostly ignores. Robbie is a good guard dog who alerts his family when someone walks past the fenced-in yard.
Robbie is completely housetrained and will let his people know when he needs to go out. Trash cans are not safe around this guy, but luckily he is a bit too short to do much counter-surfing. At night he has tried to get up on the big bed but politely gets down when told to do so…only to sneak up again in the middle of the night!
Because of his previous life experiences being left alone, Robbie is not happy when his people leave. Even with the company of the other dogs and cats, toys, and objects to chew, Robbie did do some damage when left home uncontained. It was reported that he has broken out of wire crates, so his foster mom has begun using an extremely sturdy kennel for Robbie when she goes to work. She is working with him to become accustomed to this arrangement when she is gone.
Robbie walks nicely on a leash but does bark when someone is approaching. When riding in the car, Robbie has always been crated. A good patient at the vet, Robbie quietly observed what was being done…and was glad when it was over! He was somewhat fidgety at the groomer and was particularly ticklish when his feet were touched. But the job got done!
When his foster sister went to agility class, Robbie tagged along and was good with meeting the other dogs. He watched with interest as each dog took its turn during the class, hoping maybe next time he could join in the fun. Perhaps agility training is in his future!
Because he’s a little on the lean side, Robbie’s foster family is helping him gain a few needed pounds. He will return to the vet to have a look at his teeth, some of which are worn or broken, possibly due to his interactions with wire kennels.
Robbie is a sweet, active guy whose foster family is working with him to become familiar with his new routine and to understand that they will return home. Keep posted on Robbie’s progress.
