Orginal: Robbie’s owner took him in as a stray two years ago, but does not have the time to devote to him. Robbie is a very active boy and needs a home where he will get a lot of exercise and attention. He has a very sweet and playful temperament and has never shown any aggression.
Robbie is housebroken and crate trained. He doesn’t jump fences, but he does like to dig sometimes. Robbie hasn’t had any obedience training, but he doesn’t usually jump on people. He likes to sleep on the bed and on the furniture when his owner is home. During the day, however, he is in his crate for 10-12 hours and is not getting the exercise he needs. He is not trustworthy if left alone in the house outside of the crate and may have some separation anxiety. He likes children and other dogs, but we don’t know about cats. He likes riding in the car.
Robbie would be great in a home where people have the time to play with him, teach him some obedience and love him. He’s just waiting for a place to shine.
From Robbie’s owner concerning cats and dogs:
If my memory serves me, Way back when… at my former vet (a cat man, through & through), I seem to remember some very nonchalant cats meandering around the waiting room, and Robbie got very curious-excited. He wanted to check them out, but didn’t seem threatening-aggressive. He has the puppy-like exuberance to make new friends. My personal opinion is that after inhaling them to death, he would do fine with cats that can tolerate doggies.
Last year, I took him to visit friends who have two dogs. The aggressive male Collie picked on him & had to be restrained, but the large female Shepherd/Boxer mix played with Robbie all day… no problem. He exhibited no aggressiveness. Likewise, when I had company recently (a rare occurrence), he just seemed happy for the extra attention.
From Robbie’s new Forever Home:
Robbie is here and what a love!!! The pick up went really well and Melissa is a really great person. Robbie is still getting used to us and our home (of course) but he has been really good. We left him last night to go out to dinner and he (and the house) were fine when we got back. He had a little trouble sleeping last night (to be expected) so we are all dragging a little today. He is a great frisbee player and loves to play fetch. We introduced him to my best friend’s standard poodle today. Her guy is only 8 months old and 6 ft tall (not quite :)) and full of himself. He plays fairly ruff (puppy style) and Robbie put him in his place rather quickly. We were all shocked. Once pecking order was established they played like long lost buddies. It felt so good to watch Robbie run and run and run and really enjoy himself. He is passed out at my feet right now. He is rather overweight, so we have started an exercise routine for him and low cal food and very few treats (he has to have some). Oliver helped me drop 25 lbs now I can return the favor and help Robbie drop some weight. He has the greatest face, looks like a mini St. Bernard. He has the short muzzle and freckles!!!
