Original: “When children or adults approach him while on a walk, Ripley sits and allows the people to approach and pet him.”
Ripley’s Maryland owners relinquished him to MAESSR because they did not have the time and energy this handsome boy deserved.
This active, social Springer loves to play with his Kong bouncer and wobbler and will chase a Frisbee although he won’t bring it back. He also likes squeaky toys and stuffed animals but really enjoys shredding them. In play he sometimes jumps up on people. If water is nearby, Ripley loves to swim in the pool or lake. Sometimes he likes to dig in the yard and nibble grass, too.
Ripley has been good with most other dogs in his foster home. Since he has been recently neutered, his hormone levels will go down. As this happens, his foster mom feels he will get better with all other dogs he meets. Oh, that pesky testosterone! His former owner would take him to the dog park and puppy splash where he enjoyed playing with the other dogs. His former neighbor’s dog and he were good play buddies too and Ripley never showed any aggression to him.
Totally housetrained and trustworthy, Ripley will bark to go outside. He does not urinate submissively but he will counter-surf if given a chance. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate. He’ll often go into his open crate during the day to rest or snooze. Ripley is not a fan of thunderstorms but surprisingly fireworks don’t bother him.
Ripley was given 9 weeks of obedience training lessons as a puppy and knows “sit,” “come,” “stop,” “eat,” “leave it,” “go potty,” and “off.” He will also give “high 5” when asked. Ripley pulls some when walking and his foster mom recommends a harness for walking him. He rides well in the car.
When it is spa time, Ripley is totally cooperative enjoying the combing and brushing. He was regularly groomed professionally.
When children or adults approach him while on a walk, Ripley sits and allows the people to approach and pet him. Good boy! He hasn’t been exposed to toddlers in his foster home so it is recommended that any children in his future life be older so he won’t accidentally knock them over in play. Although Ripley is essentially good with dogs, he barks at cats and wants to chase them.
To help him be more chill, Ripley is on an inexpensive supplement for anxiety. His new family will be required to keep him on it for a minimum of six months after adoption.
If you are looking for a sweet, active addition to your family, Ripley may be the right boy for you, believe it or not!
