Original: “As much as he loves to go on walks, he is also as happy to be near his people on the sofa watching TV. He is a great snuggler and does prefer to be the center of attention.”
Ringo is being surrendered to MAESSR through no fault of his own. He was owned from puppyhood by a woman and her young daughter in Pennsylvania. They found they could not give him the time or attention he needed so re-homed him to his current owners. Now one year later, those owners are facing health difficulties and believe Ringo needs more than they can give him. They tried placing him via Craig’s List but did not feel comfortable with the responses they received. Then, they found MAESSR knowing our group would find their beloved boy an active home for him to join so as to live his best life!
A typical Velcro Springer, Ringo has an average energy level and would love to be with his family 24 hours a day! As much as he loves to go on walks, he is also as happy to be near his people on the sofa watching TV. He is a great snuggler and does prefer to be the center of attention.
Sitting very politely to have his harness and leash put on, Ringo loves his walks! They are always exciting and, although he walks at the end of his leash, he seldom pulls. As much as he loves to walk, he also loves to ride in the car. He would probably prefer to be standing in the back seat with his head out the window, but he rides very contentedly in a crate in his foster family’s SUV. Good boy!
His previous family reported that Ringo liked most dogs, but not all dogs– especially small dogs. However, he lives comfortably and playfully with his foster family’s 28 lb. dog. These two have been great friends since the very first day they met. Watching them play is joyful! Ringo’s foster mom has not observed any canine aggression towards any dog while in her care. What she has noticed is that Ringo is highly aroused when he sees other dogs, wanting to desperately play with them. When he is not allowed the freedom to do so, he often barks in frustration and that can sound a bit threatening. Ringo will need some additional training to learn to keep his eyes on his handler when asked and not make such a big fuss with every dog he sees on the street.
It was reported that Ringo lived peacefully with a cat in a previous home. His reaction to a cat at the vet’s office confirmed that he should be fine living with a feline buddy. He approached the cat, smelled her, and then walked away. Ringo was a bit anxious at his vet visit but tried his hardest to put his best foot forward. The vet confirmed that he is a healthy boy!
On a recent fun outing to the local park to walk the trails, Ringo encountered many adults and many children who were attending a youth baseball game. Several children, as young as four, asked to pet him. He didn’t mind, but was indifferent to their attention. His foster family believes he could live in harmony with a family with children, but he would bond quickly with the adult who provides him the most attention. He can also get excited about life in general and may not realize children aren’t as sturdy as the adults! So, younger children may accidentally get knocked down.
Ringo is fully housetrained and he has not marked on anything since he first came into foster care. He has great house manners, but will counter-surf a bit for high value food like chicken or bacon. He does not get into the trash, though. There is no inappropriate chewing with this good boy! He does love to lie on the pillows on the sofa! SO comfy!
As for commands, Ringo’s repertoire includes “sit,” “down,” ‘wait,” and “paw” and his foster family is working on refreshing a “heel” command. He is excellent at catching treats thrown to him in mid-air!
This cutie has a big goofy Springer personality! He is left outside to play several times a day in his big fenced in back yard with his foster sister. But when his foster mom or dad go inside, Ringo wants inside as well. At bedtime, he sleeps comfortably in his foster parent’s bedroom on a dog bed on the floor, but would certainly accept an invite to sleep on the bed if allowed at least for part of the night. When both foster parents are away, Ringo obediently goes into his crate with his favorite plush Koala Bear toy, his crate mat, and soothing music for dogs’ ears playing on the television.
Ringo is a lovable guy and makes his foster family laugh every day with his exuberant personality. Because this boy enjoys his people SO much, his foster family feels he would do best in an active family with at least one adult present the majority of the day. He’d do best with teenage children in his new household as well as a dog or cat buddy or both! Let this Ringo rock your world!
