Original: “This handsome guy has had substantial obedience training. He understands hand signals and knows ‘sit,’ ‘stay,’ ‘come,’ ‘down,’ ‘wait,’ and ’paw.’ And, just for extra fun, he’s a swimmer!!”
Ringo’s Pennsylvania owners surrendered this goofy, dorky cutie to MAESSR because of a medical condition which makes it difficult for him to do stairs. Eighteen months ago, Ringo sustained a back injury when he was jumped on by the other resident dog in a fence fighting episode with the next door neighbor’s dog. Since then he has had difficulty with stairs, but seems, in his foster home, to have no difficulty running around the back yard and is able to maneuver the few steps that are there.
This handsome guy has had substantial obedience training. He understands hand signals and knows “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” “wait,” and “paw.” And just for extra fun, he’s a swimmer!! Ringo is housetrained and will whimper when he needs to go outside. He does not get on furniture, counter-surf, chew, or beg for food—what a guy! He sleeps on the floor of the bedroom. Ringo is leash trained, but pulls some; his owner trusted him off leash. He is used to being groomed and is not sensitive to having his paws or ears touched. However, he does not like his belly rubbed, preferring to just lie at his foster mom’s feet.
MAESSR’s new well-mannered Springer lived with another dog and cats, but definitely prefers the canine variety of fur–he will chase cats. And, while he does not resource guard toys or people, he is sometimes crabby with the other resident dog during mealtime and, because of food guarding, should be fed separately from other pets.
How would Ringo describe his perfect home? Well, he needs a place that has room for him to run, but not too many steps. He’d enjoy doggy companionship, but would also be happy just to be with his person as long as much attention came his way. Since he has considerable schooling in his background, he’d like his folks to provide him with some mental as well as physical stimulation. And, now, in the good old summertime, he’d love a place to swim!!
