Riley was purchased by a Pennsylvania family expecting a sweet cuddly Brittany boy. Riley turned out to be a high energy pup that did not like to be cuddled or restrained. The family worked with him extensively and had made a lot of improvements in Riley’s behavior. After realistically ascertaining where they were with him, they decided to place Riley with MAESSR in hopes that an active family could be found that enjoyed a high energy dog and was willing to work on some of Riley’s behaviors..
Riley walked into his foster home– where there are many other resident and foster dogs– like he had always lived there! This smart pup learned the dog door in less than an hour and then he was off to the fenced yard, playing and wrestling constantly with his new dog companions. When it gets to be about 8:30 in the evening, this baby is so tired that he puts himself to bed!
Crated trained and housetrained, Riley just goes out of the dog door to the yard to relieve himself. Inside the house he has not chewed anything inappropriate. He did pick up his foster mom’s flip-flop but put it down when told “no.” Riley still has a LOT of puppy in him. He will need a family willing to accept that puppies are still learning and they need guidance.
Note that MAESSR will require the adoptive family to take their new family member through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones – in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. Taking obedience classes with Riley will benefit both him and the adopters.
Riley rides well in the car in his crate. He is too energetic and impulsive not to be crated for the ride.
Riley will be in his foster home for a little while so they can figure out what the perfect home for him would be. Keep this cute boy in your thoughts.
