When his Pennsylvania owners had to relocate, they were unable to take Riggs with them to their new location. This well-loved senior spent some time with relatives before MAESSR was contacted to find him a wonderful new home where he could live out his golden years. An adaptable Springer, Riggs immediately settled in with his new foster family.
This old man is a very well-behaved dog with good house manners. He is not a trash picker or a counter surfer. Although he is definitely aware of dinner time, he does not beg at the table and patiently waits for his own dinner. He definitely has his routine, though, and expects his dinner at a certain time. After a walk outside and his meds, Riggs is ready for bed! He sleeps through the night in this foster parent’s bedroom on his own dog bed and does not need to be crated.
Riggs is now living with a resident female Springer as well as three cats. The two dogs get along fabulously and regularly play with each other. At night, they take turns sharing Riggs’ bed and during the day he’ll spend hours licking her face. They’ve really become quite attached! He is not very interested in the cats and is quite content sharing the house with them. Also, Riggs is good with the resident kids aged eight and five.
When his foster family takes him out for a walk, Riggs is good on a leash. He also enjoys exploring his foster family’s large yard on his own and responds to his name when it’s time to come in. For an older dog, he has a healthy energy level with no problems going up stairs, breaking into a small trot, or greeting you at the door with a friendly bark. Overall, his health is good. Two years ago he had a seizure while at the vet’s office, so Riggs now takes daily medication as a preventative. It has worked since he has not had another seizure since then.
Riggs is an affectionate teddy bear that loves being around people. He would be a great addition to any household. Such a sweetheart!
