Original: “If his person stands outside with him, Rex will exercise himself…how convenient!”
Rex’s owner in Virginia was no longer able to care for this sweet boy and MAESSR was contacted to find him a new forever home. Rex has adjusted well to his foster home. He is a smart pup who is a Velcro boy. He is always next to his foster mom or sitting and watching her. Rex appears to be a one-person dog that picks his owner and decides that’s who he wants to be with. Although Rex does not bother with his foster dad, he does obey him. Obviously his foster mom is Rex’s current one-and-only! Rex really wants to be with his special person at all times. In fact, he’s quick to sneak out the door when his foster mom leaves, right between her legs.
Previously Rex lived with another dog. He gets along okay with the resident Lab, although he gets upset with him being near his foster mom and sometimes will grumble to say, “I am here first.”
Rex does not get in trash or chew inappropriately. Housetrained and reliable, Rex has the run of the house when his foster parents are away. His previous family reported that he does not like to be crated and will cry. It’s been determined that Rex is a counter-surfer. He likes to stand on his rear legs and see what is happening up there. He is being trained to stay off counters and people. He knows “off” and will stand up in front of people without touching them – a bit like a circus dog! This little sneaky love bug will weasel his way onto a lap. He puts his paws on his person when sitting, and slowly brings his rump up. At bedtime Rex sleeps next to the big bed on a doggie bed, although he has been caught sleeping on the big bed in the morning when his foster parents wake up. Someone really wants to be close to his human!
Rex loves to go on walks and is walked at least three times a day. He knows to do his business on a walk. He does pull a little on the leash on his way out, but is good coming home. He is allowed off leash in the front yard of his foster home. He stays on the property and runs around the house to give himself some exercise. He comes as soon as he’s called – good boy, Rex! He has been to a creek and loves the water. He rides well in the car and he can jump in and out of a car window.
Rex likes to bark at anything that is new. He knows the command “no” and will stop barking. On walks he will not bark at things he knows or dogs he has seen before. Once he knows or sees another dog he is fine. He has not been exposed to cats or children while at his foster home. When with a group of people, Rex will be happy seeing everyone but will stay next to his chosen owner. He is a pleaser and will pick up on what his person wants him to do.
Like many Springers, Rex gobbles his food. He does not play with toys and does not know how to play with them. Rex was a good boy at the vet and he can be touched all over. This healthy guy has clean ears and no allergies. Recently neutered, Rex will be ready for a forever family once he recovers from the surgery.
Rex is a field Springer with lots of energy. His foster mom recommends a home with land or a yard so he can run. He does not want to be outside alone. If his person stands outside with him, Rex will exercise himself…how convenient!
Rex is a sweet little boy that wants to please and is easy to train. He will soon be ready for his forever family. Are you ready for a forever and faithful friend?
