Original: Reno is a very sweet and personable boy from a shelter in eastern Maryland which had taken him in as a stray. He is an energetic and inquisitive springer who loves toys and playing with other dogs and people. He hasn’t been around cats but would probably chase them. His attentiveness to birds and squirrels while being walked would indicate that he may be a good hunting dog.
When he’s not playing and running around, Reno generally occupies himself with a nap, a toy or a bone. This boy is very puppy-like. He needs to be watched to be sure he isn’t chewing on furniture or other off-limit items. His foster family is helping him learn what a dog can chew and what he can’t. He is totally comfortable at his foster home and does fine with the activity of a normal household. Although he seems skittish at first with the neighborhood children, Reno warms to them immediately. He will need an active family and/or a playful canine sibling to help work off energy in his adopting home.
When his foster family is away from home, Reno is crated but has the run of the house otherwise, with very close supervision, of course. He is already housebroken. Reno sleeps on a dog bed in his foster parents’ bedroom at night but would welcome the chance to sleep in bed with them at night.
Reno doesn’t appear to have had previous training, but he is a quick learner and has almost mastered “sit.” He walks fairly well on a leash, but still needs a little more practice. Reno does like walking on his legs like a human though! Formal obedience classes would be a very good thing for this young springer. He will jump and counter-surf and he probably would trash pick, if given the chance. A simple “no” seems to work best when correcting him. He does ride very well in the car.
His foster mom has touched him all over and he doesn’t mind having his ears checked or his paws touched. He is not food or object aggressive in any way. His foster family has taken food and other items from his mouth without a worry. He has a wonderful temperament, and he never growls or raises his lip. He seldom barks and eats well.
Reno is a major love bug and overall great guy. All he needs is a loving family to make him shine!
