Update 04/30/2014: “Remmie does play roughly so, since his return, his foster mom has been teaching him to play a bit easier with other dogs.”
Remmie was adopted by a MAESSR family that had a couple of other dogs. Remmie played non-stop with the younger dog and would play with the older dog as well. Remmie’s favorite way to play was to bite at the neck and ears of the other dog. Unfortunately, Remmie got carried away and damaged the older dog’s neck to the point that he had to have surgery. For the well-being of the older dog, the decision was made to return Remmie to MAESSR.
Remmie’s foster mom does not believe that Remmie was in any way trying to hurt the other dog. He just went way too far. He has been in his foster home with many other dogs of all ages and sizes. There have not been any issues. Remmie does play roughly so, since his return, his foster mom has been teaching him to play a bit easier with other dogs.
The family that adopts Remmie will be required to start him in a series of obedience classes within 30 days of adoption. They will also be required to take him through a second series of obedience classes within 6 months of adoption. These requirements are to help Remmie bond with his new family and to ensure he is as wonderful as he can be. If you are eager to help shape the future of a great boy with lots of energy, please ask about meeting this youngster…….
Original: “This youngster loves tennis balls and will keep himself entertained by throwing them into the air and then chasing.”
Remmie was relinquished to MAESSR because he was displaying typical puppy guarding of items he had stolen, and his Pennsylvania family was worried about the young children in the home. They were sad to see him go, but were also glad he would be going to a place where he could receive more training and structure.
Remmie was trained by the husband in his original home and knows “sit,” “come,” “lie down,” “shake,” and “heel.” But, he is a high energy Springer puppy who needs some formal obedience classes. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in such classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Remmie’s adoptive parents will be asked to agree to take him through two series of obedience classes to ensure he becomes the best Springer baby he can be.
This tri-color cutie is housetrained and crate trained. He doesn’t dig, jump the fence or submissively urinate. He will bark if someone comes to the door, jump on people, chew on any loose items he finds, and counter-surf for anything—puppies will be puppies! While the little guy will beg for food he will stop for a while if told to “go lie down.” When the family is home, Remmie is kept in the same room with them, usually the kitchen/dining room combo; otherwise, he’ll explore to find a treasure! Because of his age, he does sleep in his crate and can be crated for 6-8 hours at a time.
Remmie is not a fan of the vacuum cleaner but just walks away. However, he absolutely doesn’t like to be brushed and runs away. He has to be distracted when his feet are handled and will only allow his ears to be rubbed on the outside. Car rides are also not yet among his favorite things. He will get sick in the car if he has just eaten.
This youngster loves tennis balls and will keep himself entertained by throwing them into the air and then chasing. He was taken to a creek, but didn’t like it—he only went in as far as his belly. Remmie pulls some on his leash but is learning he has to walk nicely and will do so until he sees a squirrel!
Is your family looking for some new puppy adventures? Are you willing to spend some time at obedience classes learning, playing, teaching and loving your new family member as well as having fun meeting other pups and dog owners? If you are and if you are looking for a really sweet boy that needs some work but will be fantastic…Remmie is the boy for you!
