Original: “Reba’s foster mom would describe Reba as a Fun Talker. She suffers from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).”
This past July, the MAESSR family oversaw the birth of a litter of beautiful pups (Reba, a brother and five sisters) who are now being readied for their forever homes.
Reba’s foster mom would describe Reba as a Fun Talker. She suffers from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). She loves to play above all else, even dinner. Once she is halfway through her meal, if something seems more interesting, she is off to see what that is. She is vocal and likes to speak up. If a feather shows up in the yard that wasn’t there 10 minutes ago, she bounces and barks to let Mom know about the impending feather danger. Reba is very affectionate and does not know the meaning of personal space and will often just flop down on top of her sister, or Mom. She is smart and does not like to be kept away from all the action – she easily scales the puppy gate and when she is really determined she will climb out of the puppy pen, only to happily run to her person to receive some lovin’.
The beautiful Reba does pretty well on the leash but thinks putting the harness on is a game. She will grab her harness and trot off expecting Mom to come get it, making Mom laugh so she hasn’t tried real hard to try to correct that! While walking, Reba does sometimes become excited and start to pull on the leash—a work in progress. When she encounters new people/dogs on her walk, she wags her tail with excitement and wants to meet them – sometimes so eagerly it scares the other dog (or child) but, with Mom’s help, she eventually calms down. But if a dog growls, she is ready to run for the hills. When she encounters inanimate objects on her walks, she barks and bounces back and forth trying to determine if it’s dangerous. Once she realizes it’s not harmful, she calms down.. Since she is not fully vaccinated, she has only met a handful of dogs but has been very good with all of them. She goes all in and sometimes has to be held back so the other dog does not misunderstand her intent. Once the initial introduction is over, she plays freely with them. Unfortunately, she has not been exposed to any cats but she has seen plenty of squirrels, birds and deer from the yard. Sometimes she watches them in silence and sometimes she barks, seemingly asking them to come meet her.
When she wakes up in the morning, she loves to get her belly rubbed. She knows she has to go to the bathroom outside. She has not gone in her puppy pen in a few weeks but she has peed in the house or on the deck a few times. That will improve with time. She recently started sleeping up to five hours at night and when she wakes, she barks and whines to let Mom know she needs to go out. During the day Mom takes her out pretty regularly to be proactive.
Her indoor toys are kept in a basket, and she picks what she wants to play with but with all the toys to choose from, she still enjoys climbing into an Amazon box. Outdoors, she loves playing with a toy that dangles from a tree limb. She has a squeaky pig that she and her sister like to steal from one another. Reba also loves lying on an elevated bed in the yard chewing a toy—just chillin’.
She has access to the kitchen, deck and yard. She can freely roam between the kitchen and deck most of the time (weather permitting), runs up the outside steps, but is carried down the deck steps to the yard to prevent a fall. She loves to run around in the yard and has a short tunnel that she runs through as well.
At night and when Mom is not home she stays in a crate/puppy pen combo in the kitchen. Most of the time she goes in there with little/no protest but will sometimes bark and whine. If she needs to go potty or has not had enough exercise, she will definitely let her family know. When she has had plenty of exercise, she is usually sound asleep within a minute or two of going in, even after some whining. When the crate door is open, she mostly sleeps in the crate but will sometimes come out of the crate and sleep on the floor in the pen. She has only recently learned to stay in her crate with the door closed (it was only closed while eating in the beginning).
The ready-to-learn-Reba knows “water” and “sit” and is learning “stay,” “drop,” and “potty.” She expects a treat after the words “yes” and “good girl.” Note that MAESSR will require the adoptive family to take Reba through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.
This love is fine going to the vets and does not seem nervous at all. She just seems happy to see all the new people. She did not make any sound when receiving shots and wagged her tail after. She has had several car rides and has not been sick.
So, will Reba, “The Girl Who Has Everything” be the “Angel in Your Arms”? Let this beautiful pup sing her songs to you!
