Update 03/11/2019: “Although it took a while, Reagan has learned to coexist with and even enjoy life with other dogs in the home.”
Although it took a while, Reagan has learned to coexist with and even enjoy life with other dogs in the home. Previously, Reagan would snap at the resident dogs for merely walking past her. Now, they are all best buds and have a great time being together. She especially loves playing with the two year old male.
Reagan still, however, does not like to share her toys or food. If one of the resident dogs tries to take something that is hers, she will back them off. A few scuffles have occurred. For this reason, she might be best as an only dog. Or, if Reagan isn’t the only canine, it would be best for any children in the home to be older so as not to be caught in the middle of a possible skirmish.
Reagan is ready for springtime and to spring into a new forever family. Are you ready for Reagan?
Original: “Reagan is a super sweet, laid back, happy girl who loves to snuggle.”
Reagan came into MAESSR’s care when her busy Virginia family made the difficult decision that they could no longer give her the attention and exercise she deserved.
Upon entering foster care, it surely didn’t take Reagan long to win the hearts of her foster mom and dad. In fact, they just adore her and say she’s been the perfect house guest.
Reagan is a super sweet, laid back, happy girl who loves to snuggle. She is very well-behaved and is more than content to lie at her foster parents’ feet all day. Reagan craves attention and is the kind of girl who knows exactly what she wants and belly rubs are a top priority! As a matter of fact, Reagan will roll over right on top of her person’s feet and wait there until her wishes are met.
Reagan has wonderful house manners. She does not jump on the furniture and will not beg for food from the table. However, true to Springer form, she will sit close by and give one the famous “Springer Stare” until she is given the command to “place.” Reagan loves to eat and if she happens to see or smell something yummy in a human hand, she will jump to grab it. Her foster parents are still working to teach her a little more self-control in this area. Speaking of food, Reagan will counter-surf if given the opportunity. As a matter of fact, when Regan’s foster parents left a few pieces of leftover pizza on the counter, they quickly discovered that Reagan likes pizza just as much as they do.
Trustworthy, Reagan has full run of several rooms of the house while her foster parents are at work. She is fully is housetrained and will signal she has to go outside by going to the door. There is no inappropriate chewing or digging from this girl either.
A smart dog who is eager-to-please, Reagan is capable of learning things. She knows all basic commands including “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “place,” “down,” and “off.” Reagan is trained not to jump on people but sometimes needs a little reminder.
For playtime, Reagan loves playing fetch. After retrieving the ball, she will drop it at her person’s feet so the ball can be thrown over and over and over again! She enjoys long walks but will pull on a leash. In her original home, Reagan was accustomed to running three to four miles per day on a waist leash, and reportedly did well keeping pace.
Reagan loves meeting new people. Tail wagging a mile a minute, she is eager to say, “Hello.” In her original home, Reagan did wonderfully with three young boys, all under the age of four. Reagan also did very well during a recent visit with her foster parents’ four-year-old granddaughter. Reagan was very gentle and even let the little human take the ball from her mouth. Good girl!
Reagan is very slow to warm up to new dogs. In her foster home, she lives with three other Springers but this girl definitely likes her space. She is not interested in interacting with the other dogs at this point, and if one them gets too close to something that is hers, she will let them know about it. Reagan is kept separate from the other dogs during the day while her foster parents are at work. However, she seems to be comforted in the fact that the resident dogs are near, albeit on the other side of the gate, while everyone else is away. She is making progress in this area but still has some work to do.
When she went for her initial check-up at the veterinarian’s office, Reagan did well. She allowed the vet to examine her all over which included a thorough ear clearing. She was found to have an ear infection and is receiving antibiotics for that.
Reagan would love a family who can provide love, companionship, and plenty of exercise. She is a wonderful girl who would enjoy nothing more than a yard of her own to patrol. Although she doesn’t seem to care too much for toys, Chuck-it balls and belly rubs are a must! Make this lovely girl a part of your family!
