Original: Reagan is a real gentleman. He has adapted in his foster home with ease. There is no counter surfing, no getting up on furniture and minimal barking. Well, there are a couple of barks when his food is being prepared! He is the most non-aggressive ESS his foster parents have met.
He has had a few accidents in the house since arriving and is getting better. The vet ruled out medical causes and suggested that he be trained, starting with crate training. (It is unknown if he has ever been an indoor dog.) The vet also said the problem may be stress-related and should go away. At this time Reagan is sufficiently reliable to have full run of the house and when his foster parents clap, he will go into the backyard for his needs. At 48 pounds, his weight is correct and he got a clean bill of health upon exam. He does have a little problem in his hips so a home with less stairs than more would be preferable for him and a more mature family would be a good choice too.
Reagan is a Velcro dog. He loves ear scratches and does not jump on people to get them. He sleeps on a throw rug on his foster dad’s side of the bed and has gone back to it, as he has quickly learned it is his bed. He is also comfortable with settling into a sleep when riding in the car.
This is a pretty smart guy who doesn’t have any problems fitting in. He is fine with the other dogs in his foster home and doesn’t even sniff the resident cats. He does need leash work and his foster dad suggests that Reagan go to obedience classes with his adopting family. Yes! Older dogs can learn new skills and often enjoy the time spent with their people as much as those in the puppy classes.
With his next move, his last move, Reagan will integrate with the same ease he has to his foster home. He came into MAESSR’s care from a Pennsylvania shelter where he had been surrendered because his family was moving and couldn’t take him along. He’s 10 years young and would love a family to grow old with. A family, with or without dogs, would be fine, and, even more special is that Reagan can be expected to live in peace with resident kitties in his adopting home. If this is a need in your home, don’t miss the chance to meet Reagan!
