Original: “She is very high energy and is absolutely beautiful when she is chasing birds… and she LOVES to chase birds.”
Raven’s original Pennsylvania owner planned on using this field bred Springer and her sister for hunting. Apparently Raven’s sister had a real nose for hunting and did very well, but when Raven washed out, her owner no longer wanted her. New owners took her, but this youngster turned out to be more than those folks were able to handle; they felt that she would be a much happier dog in a quieter setting than they could give her.
Raven gets along very well with other dogs and loves to play with them both indoors and outside. She did seem a bit afraid of the cats in her former home since they would chase her when she came too close. MAESSR’s new young lady is very good with people including young grandchildren who visited occasionally.
This beauty has been crate trained and was usually crated—she’d run to it and let herself in–when her former owner went to work for about three hours at a time. She regards her crate as her “safe spot” and will retreat to it when she hears any frightening noises and sometimes in the evening just to nap and relax. The door is usually left open and she enters and exits at will.
When Raven came to her foster home, she was terrified of the world and especially of loud noises. With her vet’s recommendation, she was started on an inexpensive anxiety medication, and her foster mom has seen fantastic results. Raven is really starting to come out of her shell and now wants to be the class clown. She is very sweet and loving.
Still a puppy at heart, this gal’s inside manners are a work in progress. Raven does have an attraction to SOCKS, and, if she finds them, she will chew on them. She is a bit of a beggar at the table and a capable counter-surfer. She will jump up in greeting. On the plus side, she is not much of a barker and has never dug. She loves toys…especially chew toys. She has not been walked much on a leash, so she does tend to pull; but, she can be trusted off leash since she never strays far from her people and will return immediately if called.
Raven really loves to be outdoors and appears to have been born to run. She is very high energy and is absolutely beautiful when she is chasing birds…and she LOVES to chase birds. A typical Springer, Raven also LOVES the water; she has been to a creek and loved swimming and wading through the water. AND, she is ALWAYS up for a bath—imagine that!!
Raven LOVES to ride in the car and does not become sick at all. She has been to a groomer who did not report any issues; she is fine with letting her people handle her feet and ears and enjoys being brushed.
So, what does this fourteen month old love need? She needs a fenced yard so that she can be outside and run and run and run. She will probably do all right in a house with cats—as long as they are not of the attack-cat variety. She will be best with older children as, since she is still a youngster herself and gets very excited, she might knock little ones down. And, most of all, Raven needs a family—and will be the ideal addition to that family—that is willing to continue working with her and socializing her to all the “new” things in her world.
MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires that all adopters of dogs one year old and younger enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption and will be requiring two series of obedience classes so that Miss Raven obtains the most exposure to new things possible and becomes the best little Springer girl that she can be.
