Original: Raven is a very pretty springer. Her foster family has changed her name slightly to Ravin, as in Ravin’ Beauty, or Stark Ravin’, or even Ravin’ Lunatic, all appropriate on occasion for a 22-month-old, healthy springer. She is a cutie with a really good disposition. She loves kids, will pick paper from the trash, does not counter surf, is crate trained, and likes furniture, but gets down if told firmly. She’s a smart little devil. Her training and obedience need a little work, but she is a willing and eager pupil.
She came into MAESSR’s care due to the passing of her owner, a lady who had loved and raised her from puppyhood. As a devoted companion, Raven lived closely with her owner, and it shows in her personality. Raven hardly knew she was a Springer. She would run out to go potty and was back in quickly, as her owner did housework or watched TV. When Raven joined her foster parents, foster brothers, and sister well, she learned about a big field, swam in the Bay, smelled all kinds of neat stuff, rolled in deer poop and dead fish, and ran all around everyone. Now she understands how much more a Springer can do. It’s been fun to watch her take it all in.
But there’s more………the rest of the story, so to speak and worth the telling as it goes to the heart of MAESSR. In 2004, Raven’s foster family adopted a female Springer that they had fostered. The best information on her was that she had already been spayed. Over the next few months, the family provided foster care for several of a group of dogs, all of whom were in rough shape at the time but found their forever homes, too. One of those dogs was an intact male and a very handsome boy. You guessed it……before the end of 2004, the “oops” litter arrived with Raven being the only female. Many MAESSR volunteers helped with these puppies, either by loaning books, or sending advice. The litter became kind of a group MAESSR effort, and all were great pups, known for their good dispositions, intelligence, and probable mischief. They were placed with adopting families and, with her little ones out of the nest, their mama was spayed.
When Raven came back to her original family as a foster, it was really easy to see that she was her mother’s daughter. They recognized each other from the first and were glad to be together. Raven remembers her foster dad too and stays very close to him. When she first came back, he jingled his keys and she came running. She remembered the “keys” bit from the old feeding signal when she was teeny-tiny.
Raven, or Ravin’, has enjoyed love and excellent care from Day 1. She’s ready to begin a new chapter in her already interesting life and will treasure a forever family who will be as devoted to her as the previous people in her life have been………..
