Original: MAESSR is helping Rascal find a new home due to his original owner having too much on his plate and not enough time for him. As a result, he was spending from 20 to 21 hours daily in his crate.
This sweet boy is currently exploring his new life in his foster home. The resident Springer is a dominant female and she keeps Rascal in line, showing him the ropes of the household routine. Rascal has adjusted well to the resident cat, checking him out occasionally, but mostly leaving him alone. His newly found freedom in his foster home has given him a new outlook on life. He is curious about his new surroundings and his foster family can tell he is relishing his new life. Rascal is a talker and he likes to have fun in a rough and tumble way. He has yet to identify any toys he wants to play with, but he is very curious. He is a good car rider also. Rascal has proven to be a counter-surfer and he begs for food, but his foster mom is working on improving his manners. He had no knowledge of basic commands, but has quickly learned the words “sit” and “outside.” He is a smart boy and should catch on to everything else easily. He would do well in obedience training.
When Rascal came to MAESSR, he had an ear infection, eye infection, and skin infection and he was terribly matted. His back legs were matted together and his paws were so matted, it was clear he hadn’t walked on the pads of his feet for at least a year. After a close shave and bath, Rascal is now growing a beautiful, soft coat. He was good with grooming and bath, but did not like the clippers around his face nor did he like his ears being cleaned. His original owners said that he had been tranquilized during a grooming, but his foster family believes that it could be done by a professional and he will be just fine.
Because Rascal has spent so much of his life in a crate, his foster family is limiting his crate time. He has been given a bed of his own and sleeps on the floor next to his foster mom’s bed. He already knows where “Rascal’s bed” is and he sleeps through the night very well. His foster family has a fenced-in yard and Rascal now knows what “Outside” means. He has had accidents inside the house so he is not 100% housetrained, but his foster family is working on it. Since he has been with his foster family, he has not chewed anything inappropriate nor has he tried to dig in the yard.
Rascal is enjoying his new start in life. He would be so happy if you included him in your family!
