Original: “Always up for a walk, Ranger wags and skips around happily if a leash is picked up.”
Ranger came to MAESSR when his original owner from Pennsylvania passed away, and he and his brother Maverick were returned to the breeder who rehomed them. Without a fenced yard, Ranger wasn’t getting enough exercise and reportedly was not getting along with the resident dogs. So, the decision was made to look for a more suitable home through MAESSR. In his foster home, he has been fine with the resident sighthounds.
Completely housetrained, this handsome guy was crated the first couple of nights, but since he flops on the floor or self-crates at night anyway, he’s just gated in a big room at night and when his humans are gone during the day. He may have a signal that he needs to go out but just seems to do his business whenever one of the resident dogs requests a yard visit.
Always up for a walk, Ranger wags and skips around happily if a leash is picked up. Meeting the neighbors brings more wagging of his full tail. He doesn’t seem to mind other dogs on walks. He pulls a little on leash initially but then settles down. When walked in tandem with his foster sister, there’s a bit more pulling because they compete to get to the best smells first.
Mr. Velcro likes to follow the humans around or hang out at the window looking for chipmunks. During the workday, he flops at his foster mom’s feet near the resident gal. If there’s a toy nearby (soft squeaky ones are his favorite), he’ll pick it up and offer to have it thrown for a game of fetch. He doesn’t seem to resource guard food, toys or humans. He and the two resident dogs are fed about three feet apart with no issues. He’ll sit happily for treats.
Ranger doesn’t counter-surf, hasn’t chewed anything inappropriate, and is fairly well-behaved for his age. He will jump up on the futon, but only if invited. He likes car rides and completely charmed the transport folks that brought him to his foster mom
Reportedly, Ranger and his brother would chase the cat in their prior home but would back off if hissed at. So. although not a real cat fan, Ranger would probably be fine with a dog-savvy cat. He’s not bird-obsessed, but chipmunks really get him interested. He doesn’t seem to be much of a swimmer, drinking out of the baby pool at his foster home, but not jumping in to splash around.
Ranger is young and fairly active, but knows how to settle down and has an off switch unless there’s lots of activity going on. He’s okay with the resident hounds but could easily be an only dog. His vet appointment is still pending and he has not been to the groomer; however, he is fine being brushed, having his ears cleaned, and being touched all over.
Ranger would love to be an active companion and get to tag along with one person or share time with a family. He’s good with both women and men, wags his tail a lot, and is one handsome guy! After his vet appointment, Ranger will be ready to go to his new forever home.
