Original: “Despite his young age, Rambo is a really easy dog to have around.”
When Rambo’s owner from North Carolina died suddenly, he and his little brother Taraji were transferred by the family to an all-breed rescue that, in turn, contacted MAESSR to re-home these pups. On their 8 hour trip north, both dogs charmed every transport person along their journey.
Although initially fostered together, the pair showed no huge amount of concern when separated at a dog festival. So, Rambo’s brother Taraji went to live with another foster family with both dogs being comforted by having another young dog in their foster homes for companionship.
Rambo is basically housetrained, having had only two accidents inside and these occurring only on the day after his brother had left. Taraji was always one to initiate the “must pee on this bush” communication between the brothers. Being told a few times to “go pee” when he was more interested in play soon straightened things out for Rambo.
Despite his young age, Rambo is a really easy dog to have around. He’ll play chase in the yard with the resident female hound until tired and then bring out half the toys in the toy box to entertain himself. Generally, though, he just goes into “frog pose” on the floor behind his foster mom while she works at her computer all day. At night, he’s crated next to the resident female, though he previously slept in the same crate as his brother, usually atop one another. He sleeps quietly from 10 pm until 7:20 wake up, wagging away when the humans appear.
Rambo is an official “people greeter” whereas his brother Taraji is a little shyer but is the official “dog greeter” of the duo. Totally sweet, Rambo has no dog or human aggression. He has met and politely greeted kids as young as two when he attended a MAESSR event. During car rides, Rambo hangs out tethered in the back of the car or safely crated. He loves his car rides!
Imbued with the typical spaniel sniffing.patterns, Rambo doesn’t walk in a straight line too well. He is learning to pull less on leash, though. He usually remembers that “sit” means “sit” and not “put your paws on the person and look at the treat.” He always comes when he is called because something fun may be happening. Too short to counter-surf or trash dive, he doesn’t chew anything he shouldn’t. Since he practically inhale his food, he gets tethered so the resident dogs can eat more slowly.
Even at nine months, Rambo is still a puppy and MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. This will get Rambo off to a wonderful start with his forever family.
Little Rambo likes toys, especially rubber squeaky ones. He’ll fetch if he remembers. With a faster hound foster sister to chase, he’s already learned the spaniel trick of cutting the route so he can keep her on her toes! The gruff older resident dogs are okay with him, though he learned quickly that the old male hound does not want to share his crate! Rambo doesn’t push his luck with the resident senior Springer, either, but does look to him as a kindred spirit.
Rambo is nothing but sweet and is almost painfully cute! This mellow fellow looks at life with the attitude that it’s wonderful fun. While he seems to like having a doggie companion, humans are his delight!
