Original: “Raleigh discovered that a splash in the baby pool after a good game of chase is awfully nice!”
Raleigh’s Virginia home situation changed because the family’s adult children moved back in with a cat and a new puppy after their elderly collie passed away. When he had to be gated away from the pup and the new cat, Raleigh was not happy at all. His family made the difficult decision to rehome him and contacted MAESSR.
This good boy is completely housetrained, gets along fine with the resident dogs, sleeps quietly in his crate all night, paces to signal that he needs a bathroom break, and, in addition to all of these good qualities, he is totally cute! Raleigh doesn’t get up on the furniture but just flops at his person’s feet. He loves to be near his people! Actually, Mr. Velcro becomes anxious if gated away from his humans during the day.
Raleigh knows “sit,” “give paw,” and probably “down.” His leash manners need work though. Reportedly he’s reactive towards other dogs on leash but a trainer his prior owners had said he could be redirected easily. He paces a bit in the car, but a crate really helps.
Raleigh loves his Kong toy and beef marrow bones. The only thing he resource guards is the crate he sleeps in at night. He was playing chase with the active resident dog by Day Two in his foster home. Raleigh discovered that a splash in the baby pool after a good game of chase is awfully nice!
This handsome boy loves being groomed and is super friendly with people which is good since he needs his ears cleaned regularly to keep infections down. The only creatures he is not so friendly with are cats and other non-dog type critters like squirrels and rabbits. Raleigh looks at them as prey.
A home with a fenced yard would be ideal for Raleigh since he is so interested in chasing critters. His new owners need to be careful to not let him escape out the front door in pursuit of prey! A friendly, playful dog pal might be nice in his forever home but Raleigh would most like to play his role as Velcro dog and hang out with the humans.
