Original: “With a two-legged brother in first grade and a neighborhood full of kids under 10, Raleigh is wonderful with children.”
Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Raleigh came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs.
At 12 pounds and standing at 12 inches, Raleigh is a petite little girl with a big personality. She is being fostered along with her puppy cousin, Tug. These pups split their time living both the town and country lifestyle; this helps them experience all kinds of new things.
In the city, Raleigh has worked hard on not being scared by loud sounds like the trash truck, fog horns, and super loud Navy jets. She has come a long way and now just sits and looks around to find the source of the sound. On the farm, she is respectful of the horses and loves to birdwatch. She has even started doing a little point.
Practicing small walks, Raleigh has proven to be a quick learner. She is great on the leash and has a great “sit” and “down.” Good girl, Raleigh! She is fantastic in the car, settling right in for a nap; she looks forward to each new adventure.
Raleigh is happy to explore the fenced-in back yard or be on the leash to do her business; she’s a housetraining rock-star with minimal accidents in the house. She is doing great with crate training and sleeps in her crate at night or when alone in the house. She will whimper for a few times but then settles right down.
Raleigh lives with the resident 10-year old English Cocker and is learning to be respectful of his toys and when he is not in the mood to play. She is still a bit timid of larger dogs but once she can go out on real walks that should quickly go away.
With a two-legged brother in first grade and a neighborhood full of kids under 10, Raleigh is wonderful with children. She even got to go to school one day and loved all the belly rubs! When excited she will try and give little puppy nips but is easily corrected with a more appropriate alternative. She loves her Kong toys and puppy teething rings, but nothing is more exciting than a frozen carrot!
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. These classes will be a breeze for this smart little girl.
Already a Velcro Springer, Raleigh loves to be everywhere her people are especially if that means they are playing with her! While she has typical puppy bursts of energy, she is also happy to sleep under a chair while her foster parents are working.
At her vet appointments Raleigh was given a great bill of health. She will be completing her last round of vaccinations soon and will be spayed in a few weeks. After that, this little sweetie will be ready to join her forever family.
