Original: “Her foster mom finds Rae to be just about the sweetest dog she’s ever encountered.”
It’s unclear how Ms. Rae arrived at a shelter in Maryland, but it is clear to her foster family that she is HAPPY to be out! This poor girl obviously was not receiving care for quite some time as she was malnourished and had extremely long nails. Now that she’s a MAESSR girl, she’ll be getting the attention and quality food that she needs.
Rae entered her foster home housetrained. She’s kept on a regular schedule for potty breaks but if she really needs to go, she’s whine softly to let her parents know. Rae has mostly good house manners as she doesn’t chew inappropriately. But, because she was so malnourished, she will put her paws on the counters to check out the good smells up there. She’s never taken anything, however, and she leaves the covered trash alone. This good girl stays off furniture, choosing to lie on dog beds wherever she finds one. At night she curls up on the dog bed at the foot of her foster family’s bed.
While she doesn’t know any commands, Rae’s foster parents will begin working on that soon. When taking a walk, she does not pull on the leash; but, she’d much prefer to be inside the house with her family instead. It could be that walking is somewhat painful due to her overly long nails. Little by little, her family is working on trimming her nails and she seems to be walking much better already. Car rides, because they don’t require walking on those tender nails, is a real pleasure to Rae.
Incredibly docile, Rae allows her foster parents to cut her nails without complaint. She also let the vet do everything necessary during her examination. The only time she squirmed was during a blood draw, which is understandable.
Rae is wonderful with people and was great with her foster parents’ toddler nephew. She gets along so nicely with her canine foster brothers and another family member’s small female dog. When she first arrived, her foster parents would gate her in one area of the house but, because she is so trustworthy, she’s now allowed freedom throughout the house with the other dogs. Rae will secretly play with some dog toys but, for the moment, her biggest pleasure is lounging on one of the comfy dog beds.
Her foster mom finds Rae to be just about the sweetest dog she’s ever encountered. After such a rough patch in her life, she so deserves a family that can give her a lot of attention to make up for so much time spent on her own. While her activity level is modest at the moment, she might enjoy a more active and playful lifestyle after a few weeks of proper nutrition. Keep sweet Rae in your thoughts as she recovers her stamina.
