Update 09/23/2016: “She also gets very excited when company comes and shows her feelings by jumping, flopping over on her back and insisting upon being petted.”
Georgie was originally known to MAESSR as Quinn 2 but has been called Georgie for the last three years by her adopting family and definitely knows her name. Georgie’s family adored her, and she was living the good life. However, she decided in the last year that she was not going to be nice to the older Springer in the home, causing a huge amount of stress for everyone in the home. After trying many things to bring the conflict to a close, the family decided it would be best if Georgie came back to MAESSR and found a home where she could be the only dog.
Miss G. loves looking out the window, but she will bark in excitement if she sees a bird or a squirrel. She also gets very excited when company comes and shows her feelings by jumping, flopping over on her back and insisting upon being petted.
Georgie knows “sit,” “stay,” “shake,” “down,” “no,” “off,” “business” (going to the bathroom), and “go on” (used when she is insistent on being petted or fussing before she goes for a walk). She’s a smart girl, but vigilance is needed as this ever alert Springer will counter-surf and go through trash if it’s left out or left unsecured.
Every few days Georgie is brushed out so she does not develop mats under and on her ears and under her legs. She works well with a muzzle when she’s groomed as she can become nasty about being groomed around her legs and feet. Grooming around her ears is generally fine.
Georgie has been on anxiety medication since she was with MAESSR the first time and, while it helped her anxiety some, when she visited the vet the decision was made to try her on a different medication. So far, her foster mom is very pleased with the results.
This gal is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. She is fine when visiting a dog park, but simply does not want to share her people with another dog. Wouldn’t you like your very own Georgie Girl to protect you from those birds and squirrels?
Original: “This lively young one also loves to play in the backyard stream and gets wonderfully muddy.”
Quinn was relinquished to MAESSR because she was a “bit of a wild child” and too much for her Pennsylvania family to handle.
Quinn has adapted well to her foster home where she has free roam of the house and access to the backyard through the dog door. She loves to romp and play with the other dogs and enjoys running, fetching balls, and chewing on bones and sticks. This lively young one also loves to play in the backyard stream and gets wonderfully muddy.
Although she hasn’t had formal obedience training, Quinn knows “sit,” “stay,” “come“ (if there is food), and “paw.” She will jump on people in excitement and counter-surf should the opportunity present itself, but listens and behaves perfectly at mealtime—sitting and waiting politely for the command that she can eat her food. She is crate trained and will sleep in her crate for about eight hours; however, she definitely prefers her foster parents’ bed as her sleeping place! Grooming is no problem for this beautiful lady, and she is fine with having her feet handled and ears cleaned—good girl, Quinn!
Quinn rides very well in the car except for some barking at the beginning and the end of each ride. This behavior is improving with help from her foster mother. She will walk away from machinery that makes a loud noise like the vacuum cleaner or lawn mower.
MAESSR’s new girl is very much a diamond in the rough. An obedience class will be an adoption requirement for Quinn when she finds her furever home. Her new family will need to work with her and help her learn how good Springer girls act.
