Update 09/04/2013: “He continues to open up and adjust to his foster family….….”
Quincy is doing VERY WELL!!! He continues to open up and adjust to his foster family, playing with the young people and becoming much better friends with the resident Springer.
This handsome guy has now been to the groomer and came through that experience with flying colors—good boy, Quincy. What a fine example of how Quincy is relaxing and becoming more and more comfortable in a secure home!
He’s still a playful young Springer, but his foster family has had good luck in teaching him the command “drop” when they want him to give up a toy or something that is special to him—smart boy, Quincy!
Quincy continues to receive treatment for Lyme disease and a staph infection, but once healthy, he’ll be ready for a very lucky family.
Original: “Once he gets to know the new dog, he is very good with him.”
Quincy came into MAESSR’s care when his Pennsylvania owner needed to relocate and could not take him along.
Although initially shy when he came into foster care, Quincy he has come alive and has started to fit right in with his foster family and the resident Springer. His previous favorite playmate was the child he grew up with and now Quincy has two young people to play with in his foster home—one 11 and the other 16! He’s always up for a game of tug-of-war with them. Quincy has been initially hesitant around new dogs because of an attack by a neighbor’s dog when he was a puppy. Once he gets to know the new dog, he is very good with him. This pattern was shown with the resident Springer, too. Now, they are buddies.
Reliably housetrained, Quincy has free run of the house with the resident Springer when his foster family is out. He’s not a counter-surfer, but he does like to get on the furniture. When told to get down, he complies. In his previous home, he was allowed to sleep on the bed, but his foster parents have broken that habit and Quincy now sleeps on the floor next to their bed.
Although Quincy listens very well to most commands, he does have a problem with “drop.” If he has something that he doesn’t want to give up, he will show his teeth. His foster family is working on that with Quincy to change this behavior. He takes treats nicely from your hand, though, and loves going along with his people on car rides.
Quincy walks well on a leash and enjoys his outings. He also loves to run free in the fenced yard and has lots of energy. He has lots of toys throughout the house and plays fetch, but doesn’t return his toys too well. He has not been too keen about letting his foster family handle him, though, so they haven’t tried bathing him or grooming him yet. As his foster family gains more trust with him, they are trying more things and they are seeing progress being made.
This sweet young boy is a real love and will soon be ready for his forever home. Are you ready to fall in love?
