Updated 7/09/06: Pressie is really starting to blossom. She’s met dozens of new people, been to new places, and experienced new things, all of which she takes in stride. Fireworks and thunderstorms are no problem. The only thing she seems a little worried about is her own reflection in the windows at night, which is amusing to watch and easy to correct.
She just loves training time and would probably really like to do a class or two with her adopting family. Pressie works hard for bits of chicken or cheese. She’s very good at “sit” and “down.” She is doing well at housebreaking but still doesn’t ask to go out. Her foster mom takes her out hourly right now to ensure her success.
Pressie has moved from her crate to a bedside pillow at night. She enjoys being close. She spent some time on the bed the morning of her spaying, in order to keep her mind off of not being allowed breakfast, and liked that.
Pressie’s energy level is in the normal Springer range. She tires out after a little exercise and then spends time following her human EVERYWHERE. She settles in the evening with a good chew surrounded by her family. Pressie is a truly wonderful people dog and will steal your heart.
Original: Pressie is a slim 37-pound gal who came to MAESSR when her owners realized they could not give her the amount of exercise and attention she very much needs. She does need to be tired and spent before you see the relaxed dog emerge.
Pressie loves to run and play in the yard with both people and dogs. She loves to chase the resident 12-month-old Springer and wrestle with the resident 3-year-old Springer. She’s good with all people, but since she jumps, the children she plays with should probably be at least as big as she is. She will run after a Frisbee but doesn’t bring it all the way back yet. Inside, Pressie keeps herself busy playing with toys and chewing rawhide. She may not have had much experience with riding in cars, but she did well when riding home with her foster mom. Of course, she was buckled safely in place so she couldn’t help with the driving!
Basic obedience training will be a must for this youngster. She knows “sit” and “down” but needs work on everything else. Her leash walking has improved with a Gentle Leader Easy Walk harness. Her foster mom is working with her on recall and jumping. She does counter surf although she can’t actually reach anything, and she probably would trash pick if it was available. Pressie doesn’t growl when you take things away, but she doesn’t give them up easily either. “Give it” is another command she will want to learn before long. Much to her credit, she hasn’t chewed any inappropriate things in her foster home.
When her foster mom is out and at night, Pressie stays in her crate She really doesn’t want to go in but is encouraged with a Kong or treat. She doesn’t cry at night but is a bit unhappy that the resident dogs sleep on the bed and she sleeps beside the bed.
Pressie has had a few housebreaking accidents which could be caused by the excitement of her transition. She is now going out every hour. Her foster mom walks her onto the grass and waits until she does those five little pees. Pressie may be too excited at this point to just empty her whole bladder, but progress is coming.
This sweet one loves the attention of any human. She will climb up into your lap, put her little head on your shoulder, and stare adoringly into your eyes. She’s a little keeper who wants to be close and share in everything that is going on. If you have lots happening in your life that she can be part of, this is the dog for you.
