Porter 2 1
Porter 2 2
Original: “He is affectionate and enjoys TV time and a good cuddle.”
Porter’s first home left him at a West Virginia vet/boarding for three months. The only explanation that was relayed to his fosters was that he was not good with the other dogs. The vet re-homed him to an elderly woman who after 6 months found him to need more exercise than she could provide. Then, Porter’s fortunes changed and he became a MAESSR boy.
Porter is a true joy of a dog. He seems to know many commands and looks to his guardian for clues as to what to do next. He is housetrained, but not crate trained; he has good house manners when in the rest of the house so far. He does well on walks and enjoys meeting others. Porter is happy on car rides and settles in the back seat eager to see where he will go. He is affectionate and enjoys TV time and a good cuddle.
Porter has some separation anxiety. At night and when his fosters (rarely) leave him alone at the house, they put him in the finished basement where his food and bed are. He gets very excited and scratches at the door to the rest of the house. He is taking some medication to help him adjust to his new surroundings.
He is an active dog and LOVES to play outside. His favorite toys are his tennis balls, especially the kind that squeak! He may be almost 8 but he is active! His foster family does not have a fenced yard; however, he stays in the upper yard when they play and garden so a fence may not be a necessity.
Because of his reported history of not getting along with other dogs, the fosters have not yet introduced him to their dog friends but plan to do so soon. The resident cats are still separated from him with baby gates, but the group have reached a point where they no longer react to each other, and foster mom has every reason to believe that Porter will do well with them.
Groomer visit behaviors so far are unknown, but he is okay to be touched all over.
Porter has been in several homes in the last year and is truly looking forward to a place to call his own. What a happy fall some lucky family will have with him!
