Update 02/02/2016:“She has made an executive decision and has decided that her foster dad should not sit on the couch and watch TV unless she is sitting next to him with her head in his lap!“
Poppy is doing great and each day becomes even more of a Velcro Springer. She has made an executive decision and has decided that her foster dad should not sit on the couch and watch TV unless she is sitting next to him with her head in his lap! Poppy’s disposition is wonderful; even when returning from the vet, she greeted all her dog friends happily and went right to her comfort spot.
At her last vet visit, Poppy got a clean bill of health. A tweak in her medication to manage incontinence was made and is bringing added benefit. Her foster dad had noticed a limp in one leg when she first gets up which then goes away. Fortunately, it’s not a worry and it doesn’t slow this gal down. She can sprint around the yard with the other dogs and be right in with the pack. Her agility brings smiles. She loved being out in the big snow with her buddies; that storm was a major mess for all but the dogs!
This snow bunny is ready for a new lap and a new pack to call her own…a sweet and lucky girl for one loving family!
Original: “Fetch with a ball is a fun thing for her and she actually brings back the ball to drop at her person’s feet! “
Poppy’s New York owner did not have the time to care for her, and this lucky girl joined the MAESSR family. She is a very sweet, docile, well-mannered young lady. She listens very intently, shifting her head as if to try and understand what her foster dad is saying. She is a very good girl and a gentle dog of normal energy level.
Poppy blended right in with the resident dogs and is friendly with both the dogs and cats–no growling, no issues, and, thus far, no food aggression. When the cats go bump up against her, she sniffs them and wags her tail; she has slept a few times in the same bed as one of the resident Springers.
Miss P is a typical Velcro Springer who follows her foster dad everywhere; during the day, she lies underneath his desk chair where he works, and, at night, after being the first one up the stairs, sleeps on a dog bed next to her “dad.”
What a well-behaved house guest she is! Poppy does not get on furniture, although she would love to become a lap dog! She is not a barker, but when she became very vocal, her foster dad realized that was her signal that she had to go out. This love is not crated and has full roam of the house along with her foster siblings. She has not counter-surfed or shown an interest in the trash. Her only chewing has been on a stuffed moose—a welcome home present.
Poppy responds to “sit” and loves to go for walks although she does pull a bit. When she sees her leash, she spins in a circle until it is attached. So far she has been good seeing other dogs on their walks. In the yard, the new girl in the family is becoming used to running with the other dogs. While she doesn’t engage them in play, she does wag her tail and sniff them all. Fetch with a ball is a fun thing for her and she actually brings back the ball to drop at her person’s feet! In the car, she enjoys her ride but keeps offering her paw to help drive!
At meal time, Poppy is fed with the other dogs buts likes to go first. When food appears, she repeats her walking “act” and spins in a circle until dinner is offered. Pills need to be hidden in her food—she’s a smart girl!
This lovely lass would thrive in a home with company—people or other dogs—where she can receive good, consistent attention. Watch for updates as she continues her MAESSR life with trips to the groomer and vet—and when the weather improves–longer walks so she can explore the people and four-legged critters in her neighborhood.
