When a Pennsylvania owner gave up his breeding program, Pooh Bear and three other ESS were relinquished to MAESSR.
This tall, lanky, handsome fieldie is super sweet and is truly a comedy experience all on his own. An absolute love bug who’s much more than a lap dog, Pooh Bear melts into and all over his people.
Having just turned one year old, his hilarious puppy personality is nonstop. He easily entertains himself with a myriad of toys, especially anything that squeaks. Though not an immediate shredder, he makes decent work of emptying the fluff and finding the squeaker. Once out, he’ll continue chewing the squeaker so it’s important to immediately take it from him. Pooh believes every toy is his and gleefully steals from the resident dogs, much to their chagrin. In true puppy mode, he’s also stolen two of his foster mom’s shoes to chew on.
Although very playful, Pooh Bear is not hyper. He calms down beautifully, lying at one’s feet — or on one’s lap — snoring away. He has a super soft mouth, takes treats very gently and easily takes medications. Thankfully, Pooh has yet to pick up the counter-surfing habit from his resident siblings, though given his size the potential does exist. He hasn’t fully outgrown his puppy nippiness, usually going for the hands though elbows and feet are fair game, too.
Although MAESSR was informed Pooh was housetrained and crate trained, he is neither. In the short time Pooh’s been in foster care, he’s made great progress with his housetraining. His new home will need to continue working on this. Because he escaped from his crate in a most unconventional way (thankfully he didn’t injure himself), his foster mom switched to a doggy gate to confine him. In the few seconds it took her to close the gate and turn around, Pooh easily cleared it and was standing in front of her. Who needs Netflix with this entertainment??
Typical of Springers, Pooh is a super Velcro dog, following his foster mom wherever she is. Because he loves being around humans, he does suffer from separation anxiety of the vocal variety. MAESSR will work with his adoptive family on training techniques that can help him overcome this vocalization.
Having had very little leash walking, Pooh Bear has made excellent progress in a short time. Formal training classes with his adoptive family will ensure he continues his progress. Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Pooh Bear will be a good student.
This smart boy will make an excellent running and hiking partner as well. He loves meeting people and dogs on his walks. He also loves car rides and is an excellent passenger.
