When Polo’s owner from Virginia was deployed, his four month old pup was returned to the breeder who then contacted MAESSR for help in finding this puppy a new home.
Friendly and easy-going, Polo transitioned smoothly into foster care. He loves to be with his people and enjoys the attention they shower on him. He is not quite housetrained yet. Although his foster mom takes him outside about every hour, Polo has still had some accidents. He has not figured out yet that he must signal his desire to go out. This will come with time, though. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate all night without accidents. Good boy!
In his puppy playfulness, Polo has stolen an occasional tissue from the bathroom waste basket and a few shoes. As a result of this mischief, he has learned the meaning of no! He also will jump up on the furniture, but gets down when told. He is doing well with the command sit and comes to a whistle. As with all MAESSR puppies younger than a year, Polo must be taken to obedience lessons by his forever family according to MAESSR regulations. Right now, Polo pulls on the leash when walked. When he and his canine foster sister are leashed in the house in preparation for a walk, Polo likes to pick up her leash and then drag her around. Such a helpful puppy!
Polo is good at engaging the other dogs in play and is also good at entertaining himself by chewing on rawhide bones and big squishy balls. Shoes seem to be a good chew toy, too, or so Polo thinks. His foster parents disagree! If he is not given enough attention, he barks until someone engages him in play. He is all puppy – chasing and trying to give puppy chews to your ankles.
Even though Polo has not met any children while in foster care, his foster mom believes he would be great with them. He needs a forever home that will give him the exercise and training and love that an active puppy needs.
What to play?
