Update 02/06/12:
Pleaser has been doing wonderfully in the month she has spent with her foster mom. This once shy, submissive girl has blossomed into a very happy and gentle lady. Her name is perfect for her as all she wants to do is please.
There was a slight setback with Pleaser’s car riding as she was used to traveling in a crate. With treats and small dose of anxiety meds for long trips, Pleaser has come to really enjoy car rides again. She is a back seat rider and, if possible, will stand with her tail wagging, making nose print designs on the window. This makes her foster mom very happy!
She greets all company with a happy “woo woo” after they are in the room and sometimes ten minutes later, which makes everyone laugh. Her most endearing new trait is how she greets her foster mom with a squeak toy in her mouth, serenading her with more “woo woos.” Yes, Pleaser now loves squeak toys! She has also finally figured out what to do with her bone and thoroughly enjoys her after dinner chew time.
This sweetheart is progressing very well. Her indoor manners are still impeccable with no new issues. She is just so easy and gentle. Her foster mom has taught her the simple commands to “come,” “sit,” “down,” and “shake.” Her “stay” is solid about 50% of the time. Pleaser’s foster mom is still working with her on meeting other dogs and people on walks. At first, Pleaser would try to bolt whenever she saw anyone outside. With much praise and positive reinforcement, she is improving but still needs work in this area.
Pleaser was started on a supplement due to stiffness in her hips and it has been very effective. Now when taken for a walk she enjoys trotting along, holding her head high, and smiling. Of course, her foster mom is smiling, too! After a dental cleaning, Pleaser’s kisses are sweeter than ever.
A sweet and delightful girl, Pleaser will soon be ready for adoption. She has had limited exposure to small children without issues, but would likely do better with older children. She needs a forever home with the patience and time to teach her that outside people are fun, too. She has made wonderful strides in just one month and her future is very bright!
Original:
When Pleaser’s Virginia owners could no longer afford the best of care for this sweet girl, they looked to MAESSR for help.
This rather shy, 37 pound girl is adjusting to indoor life wonderfully. While she was not previously housetrained, she is doing great with no accidents thus far. Good girl! Her signal to let her foster mom know that she needs to go out is a little pace. She has impeccable house manners and does not counter-surf or jump on furniture. She greets with a submissive tail wag and is working on socializing with different people. Pleaser does not beg, but snuggles close to her foster mom’s feet just in case a crumb falls. Her true love is treats! If her foster mom is near the pantry or opens the door, this cute little cocked head peers around the corner as if to ask, “Remember me?”
Pleaser walks well outside on a leash and has a great wiggle sit. She responds to “come” outside and truly looks like she is smiling when she’s called! She is very shy on the leash when meeting other people or dogs, but with continued socialization, this will likely change. Pleaser also loves car rides.
This Velcro girl loves her dog bed and her foster mom’s favorite old quilt, which she lays on in the kitchen, never far from people. She loves her crate and will sleep in it at night. Her foster parents don’t require her to stay in her crate, but they do keep it around just for comfort. She shows no interest in toys or balls yet, but adores belly and ear rubs.
There will be more to come on this sweet girl. Stay tuned!
