When an accident left Pixie’s Maryland owners unable to pay for veterinary care that she desperately needed, they made the difficult decision to relinquish her to MAESSR, knowing that her medical needs would be taken care of and a wonderful forever home found for her.
According to her foster mom, Pixie is the perfect puppy. She has never seen a puppy quite like Pixie! She has already learned sit and comes when she is called. This smart pup will have ample opportunity to learn all sorts of things as she bonds with her new family during formal obedience classes, a requirement for all MAESSR adoptees under 1 year old. Pixie is already making great strides with her housetraining as well. With the nice weather, her foster mom can leave the back door open when she’s home and Pixie just goes out as she needs.
Pixie has a great schedule and sticks to it well. She gets up at about 6:30 in the morning and goes outside to take care of business before eating breakfast. She has been going to work with her foster mom and plays for about 30 minutes before going into her crate and napping till lunchtime. After another trip outside and a quick bite to eat, she plays for a while longer before taking another nap until it’s time to go home for the night.
At her foster home, Pixie loves to follow the resident Springer around, chewing on his ears. He tolerates this for the most part but will let her know when her razor sharp puppy teeth hurt. Pixie’s leg is healing nicely. She does rehabilitation exercises three times a day with her foster mom to help the elbow joint remain flexible. Although her activity is supposed to be somewhat limited as she recovers, her foster mom has found that containing a Springer pup is easier said than done! Pixie is moving along quite well and using her leg more each day. In the long term, Pixie would benefit from some swimming to help keep her muscles and joints strong.
Pixie had the opportunity to meet and play with Springers of all shapes, sizes, and ages when she attended the first Springerfest picnic of the season in Pennsylvania. Then, she spent the next day entertaining hundreds of people who stopped by MAESSR’s booth at a local dog walk. Pixie charmed everyone with her delightful temperament and adorable puppy antics.
This is one well-adjusted, sweet pup who is going to make some special family a wonderful lifelong companion. Could that family be yours?
