Piper was a stray picked up by animal control in a rural Virginia county. MAESSR was notified about her by one of our volunteers. The MAESSR shelter team jumped into action and had her in a foster home very quickly.
Terrified of people, she has been in her foster home for a couple of weeks now and is still frightened. She is receiving an anxiety medication that is helping, but it will take a while to overcome her fears.
Piper is totally housetrained and she is also crate trained. She has done very well with all of the handling she gets. She freezes instead of becoming aggressive.
During her day at the vet, Piper was spayed and had all of her medical work done. While she was sedated, they cleaned her teeth so now she has pretty white teeth. She was excellent for the vet staff and when it came time to go home, she had decided she was going home with one of the vet techs. Her foster mom had to break her heart and take her back to her foster home.
Piper will probably be in foster care for a while, so please keep her in your thoughts.
