Piper was originally brought to safety in Georgia by an all-breed rescue group. At the time she had just had a litter of puppies and was emaciated and extremely scared. It was obvious she had not been socialized or loved in her previous life. After the group had worked to get Piper healthy, they brought her to the DC area where she was adopted by a family that loved springers. Sadly, there were personality differences between Piper and the resident dog. Her owner felt the other dog caused the problem but, since Piper was the newcomer and also had some anxiety issues, the family contacted MAESSR for help and, in the end, chose relinquishment. A blessed outcome, Piper is a sweet girl who gets along with all the dogs in her MAESSR foster home.
Work began on Piper’s anxiety issue with arrival at her foster home. Due to the anxiety and her uncertain past, she was started on a medication. It was felt she would be able to progress faster with some of the anxiety gone. Her foster family feels the med is definitely helping. So is daily work with her. The long term hope is that Piper will be able to be weaned from the medication and live a normal life.
It takes Piper just a few minutes to figure out everything is ok when meeting new people. After that, she loves everyone and is just as playful as a puppy. She is fully housetrained and comes immediately when called by name. She is happy on walks and loves, loves, loves to be brushed. She is crate trained and will go into her open crate for naps. When it’s time for her family to run errands, they just tell her “crate” and she will head there eagerly to wait for their return. At day’s end she prefers to be near her people and will sleep on her dog bed all night if it is beside her family’s bed.
Piper is a great lap dog and is always up for some snuggling. Her other loves are simple ones………….she loves her chewy, her tennis balls and a nice snuggly blanket. She is the typical Velcro springer and will brighten any home with her wagging tail. She’s just now beginning the life that every dog should have. Check back to follow her progress……….
