Original: “Having a watchful eye is going to be a key requirement for this girl’s adoptive parents because she likes to find things to do.”
Phoenix’s Virginia owner really worked with this sweet girl in accepting the family’s children; however, the fact is that children make Phoenix extremely nervous. Rather than having an ugly incident develop between dog and kids, Phoenix’s owner relinquished this beauty to MAESSR knowing an appropriate child-free home could be found for her beloved pup.
This Springer wanna be is full of love for the adults in her life. When her human siblings get excited, she becomes overly anxious. While she may be a ball of energy, she would prefer to be the only one with exuberance in her home. She can be shy with new adults but does warm up quickly. She would make an amazing hiking partner with her exploratory nature.
Phoenix is doing well on her housetraining and she is crate trained as well. She sleeps in her crate at night and when her family is out of the house. Still a puppy at 13 months, Phoenix will eat random things if left unattended. Having a watchful eye is going to be a key requirement for this girl’s adoptive parents because she likes to find things to do.
This smart cookie knows “come” and working on “sit.” She understands the concept of “drop it” but does not always let go of the item. Obedience training is a work in progress. Phoenix does walk well on a harness and she rides great in the car, just lying down and enjoying the ride.
Note that MAESSR will require the adoptive family to take Phoenix through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones – in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.
Phoenix absolutely loves to play and be with adult people but cuddling is her most favorite activity. She loves to be the center of attention and, like all Bull Terriers, she loves to be involved in everything her people do. Stuffed animals and chews of all kinds are her favorite toys.
This girl loves an adventure. She does well with other dogs after a slow introduction. She loves to play with other dogs and would need another fur companion that has some give and take. She typically does not start an argument but she does not back down from one either. She is kitty friendly but would need to live with a dog-savvy cat; she can be a lot for those cats who have never been around dogs and she will chase. Phoenix tries to find a playmate in all species and cats are not safe from her love or desire to be involved in what they do.
Phoenix was diagnosed with a double chamber ventricle and a mild subvalvular aortic stenosis that requires prescription medication twice a day. Her prognosis is good, though, and her condition is just something for a new owner to be aware of. Although Phoenix would not be a strenuous running companion due to the heart conditions but she would make a great walking partner!
If you are looking for a super smart, fun-loving companion who has a love for couch cuddle time- this girl is the one for you!
