Update 06/25/12:
Phineas returned to his original foster home after a brief stay with an adopting family. The family had toddlers and this young pup was not comfortable with their attention.
With his return Phineas’ focus is on play with other dogs. He’s having a ball with another young ESS foster in the home, tearing around the yard in serious springer fashion. He’s taken to splashing around in the baby pool after a good game of chase, or, just flops in there to hide from his playmate.
Phineas remains a sweet, gentle youngster who is deserving of love and nurturing. He will be a wonderful companion in a springer-loving home……just not one with little people!
Original:
Phineas began his life with a family in Pennsylvania who had four little boys all under the age of 5 years. It is reported that he did quite well with them. When the family realized they did not have time to devote to Phineas, another family adopted him as a companion to their older male Springer. Unfortunately, during the two months in their care, it became obvious that sweet Phineas was being picked on by the other dog. It was decided, for his safety, that Phineas needed MAESSR’s help to find a new home.
This fine dog is housetrained and does not counter-surf or dig. Although Phineas thinks about begging from his foster folks while they’re eating, he will leave the room on command and do a “down/stay” while they eat. He also knows “sit,” “come,” “roll over,” and will fetch and hand over a toy. Behaviorally, he only has had minor transgressions. When first greeting his foster dad, he was told “off,” which resulted in a little submissive urination. In a separate incident, he tore up some newspapers that his foster mom had left on the floor near her reading nook while he was left alone for three hours. Crate-trained, Phineas crates quietly but has free roam of the house when the humans are home. He sleeps at night on a blanket in the laundry room between the washer and dryer, despite having freedom to sleep in several other dog beds.
While walking, Phineas is good on leash; his foster mom suspects that he probably could be trusted off leash. Riding in the car is particularly fun for him, and reports indicate that Phineas enjoys swimming as well as diving for rocks in creeks.
Phinney is a warm, loving dog. He’s gentle and polite for his age, not overly excitable, but shows his love of life with his sparkling eyes and constantly wagging tail. If spoken to in a happy voice, this smart guy will sit and ‘”talk” to show how happy he is to have human companionship. He initiates play with all the other dogs in his foster home, even the usually grumpy terrier. He’s a wonderful dog who is very much appreciated by his foster folks for his always upbeat and docile nature.
Sweet, gentle Phineas deserves a truly forever home where he will be loved and given the attention he deserves. A canine companion would be great, and a family with children would be a complete joy for him. Consider this wonderful pup as the next addition to your family.
