Original: “A lover of people, Petey just wants to be with them at all times.”
Petey came to MAESSR from Pennsylvania after he started fighting with two other dogs in the home. The family tried to figure out what the issue was but were unsuccessful. They could not continue to live with the three dogs fighting all of the time so they decided to find Petey a new home.
A lover of people, Petey just wants to be with them at all times. He generally is good with other dogs, but he will “guard” his people and food, keeping them from coming close. There are several dogs in his foster home and his foster family is working with him on this. They have seen improvement, but his foster mom believes that Petey would be best as the only dog in his new home. He would do fine going out and about at the dog park, etc.; it’s just that he wants to be the only canine in his family.
Both housetrained and crate-trained, Petey has good house manners and is reliable when left home alone; therefore no crate is necessary when his people are out. If he’s given the opportunity to go for a ride, he does well in the car. At night, he loves to share his foster parents’ big bed with them.
Petey was very anxious when he arrived at his foster home. His original family reported that he has always had some anxiety. MAESSR’s vet recommended an inexpensive medication to help keep Petey’s anxiety from taking over his world. The medication has done wonders in improving Petey’s outlook on life.
If your family is one that prefers just one canine resident, ask about Petey. He will make a wonderful solo companion and promises to shower you with love.
