Pete’s foster parents report great progress for this little guy. He has good house manners which make him a welcome guest. When Pete needs to go out, he signals his foster parents; when done, he barks to let them know it’s time to let him back in the house.
This former stray loves being an inside dog. In fact, he finds the sofa a most WONDERFUL invention! He loves to lie on the sofa and his family has found it impossible to keep him off. His forever parents should be of the mind that a small snuggle partner is always welcome up on the sofa. Cold winter nights should be a bit cozier with Pete!
Pete gets along with other dogs but he prefers to be the center of attention. He certainly wouldn’t mind being an “only.” While Pete allows his parents to move his food dish when he’s eating, he does guard high value treats. A little extra training should help him understand that this isn’t proper behavior since he’s no longer out on the streets.
Pete’s ideal home should have older children as his energy level and jumping could topple younger youth.
This cutie loves to go for rides and, while he starts off excited, he settles quickly for the trip. Pete also loves to walk on a leash and he does quite well. He does pull at first and a harness would be best to help him start out a bit calmer. He is crate trained, taking all of his meals and sleeping in the crate. He has full run of the house at other times.

Pete came to MAESSR as a stray found in Georgia. This Southern pup is probably a Springer mix, but looks like a mini-Springer—how very cool! He is settling in nicely at his foster home and showing his new family how much he just loves people.
The young man does well in his crate at night and while his folks are at work; housetraining is still a work in progress as he sometimes forgets to alert the humans when he needs to go outside. He is happy also to eat and sleep in his crate. Pete knows “sit” and “down” and is working with his family to learn “come” and “stay.” He is also learning that jumping on people is not an appropriate way to show his enthusiasm.
This most happy fella is alert in and out of the house and barks when a stranger approaches or if he hears a strange noise—what a good watch dog! While he walks well on a leash and eagerly goes to the door when his leash is picked up, he does prefer to be inside and is content to snuggle up to people on the couch—he does help himself to the furniture. He may not have the Springer “I love water” gene as, while he didn’t protest his first bath, he was happy when it was over.
Would a small, lively guy fit into your home? Pete is busy learning what it’s all about and will soon be looking for a furever spot to call his own. He would do well as an only dog or be happy with some playmates. He should probably be in an adult-older children only home as he could well knock over a youngster in playfulness.
