Percy was relinquished to MAESSR because his family in Virginia felt that he was a bit too unpredictable around the 2 year-old child in the home. He would occasionally grumble when made to do something he did not want to do. Although his family could take other items away from Percy without incident, he guards his food and will grumble and stiffen when he is being fed. He has never bitten or snapped, though.
A gorgeous sable colored Springer, Percy has been an angel in his foster home. Percy is very well behaved and likes to give kisses. He was a wonderful boy at the vet and the groomer. He was actually kissing the groomer the entire time she was working with him. He is not really fond of having the drops put in his ears, but does not act inappropriately.
Percy barks at the door bell but otherwise is just a normal barker. He does not urinate submissively, jump on counters, or chew inappropriately. What a good boy! Outside Percy will not jump a fence, but he’s been known to dig a little in the yard. In his excitement to greet humans, Percy does jump on people. His foster family will continue working on correcting this behavior. It’s reported that he can be a little “mouthy,” as well. When his tummy starts to feel hungry, Percy’s been known to whine a little for food (just like many of us humans!).
Although he has not had any formal obedience training, Percy previously had a dog walker who worked with him so he knows the commands “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” He was crated as a puppy but no longer uses a crate. Because he pulled on walks using a regular collar, Percy’s former owners used a prong collar which improved his walking behavior. He is not trusted off lead. While Percy is a little reluctant to get into a car, once inside, he rides well. Thunderstorms spook him a little, but nothing dramatic. He has no separation anxiety.
Some of Percy’s favorite activities are playing with a Frisbee or ball and going for walks. It is reported that he gets into water, but actual swimming hasn’t been observed.
Percy is looking for a forever home to call his own. An active family with older children would be best for this young pup. His ideal home would provide him with someone who loves to toss a Frisbee, play catch, and go for walks. He will pay you back with lots of love and wet Springer kisses!
