Percy was pulled from a Virginia shelter. When pulled, his coat was faded, matted, stained, and he had a hot spot about 6 inches in diameter. The vet cleaned up the hotspot while he was being neutered. He is on some medication for it. It will take some time to heal, but it should be okay.
This is what we know about Percy so far. He will sit on command. He loves to play fetch with a tennis ball, but most of all just wants to be petted and scratched! And he gives wonderful kisses! The whole way to his foster home, he gazed happily out of the car window and seemed to be thinking, “FREEDOM!!” His foster mom put him right up on the grooming table. She shaved off all of that matted and faded fur. As she did, the most handsome dog began to appear! He has a lovely build and head, great markings, nice feathering, and of course….those “irresistible Springer eyes”! He was calm as a cucumber with the grooming….acted like he’d been groomed every week of his life (which is clearly NOT the case!). He got upset only when she was clipping a heavily matted area around his SEVERELY infected ear!
Percy loves to play. He is not crate-trained. He has a good appetite and except for his ear and hot spot, appears to be in good health. He will make a great addition to any family. We won’t be placing him with cats as we have not had a chance to test him with them.
Percy has a pretty bad ear infection which is being treated. He loves all dogs. He has some separation anxiety, but we are not sure how severe yet. He likes kids, loves toys, especially balls.
Percy clearly has a solid case of separation anxiety. He will do best in a home where someone is home most of the time. He will tolerate a crate, but he will howl when you leave him in it. Unlike some dogs, he is not self-injurious or destructive when alone in his crate – just loud.
We have also learned that Percy likes cats a little too much. He recently was introduced to a cat and his body language and demeanor were a little too aggressive for comfort. He will not go into a home with cats.
After biting his foster mom very badly, MAESSR made the decision to put Percy down. We hope that there is less pain and confusion for him on the other side of the Bridge.
