Original: “She is full of energy, loves to walk and will play catch with a tennis ball endlessly in the house! She’s also sweet and cuddly.”
Pepper was much loved but just too energetic for her former New Jersey owner, a senior citizen with medical issues. She came to MAESSR to find a home where her family would have the time and energy to exercise and socialize her.
This petite young lady is housetrained and will go to the door or bark when she needs to go out. Before being spayed, she did have accidents in her home. A vet visit revealed a urinary tract infection and led to subsequent treatment. Pepper now has full access to her foster family’s home. She was crated in her former home but has not been as frequently while in foster care. When crated, she howls and barks but eventually calms down and rests.
Pepper has had no training and needs much work in this area. Her foster family is working on basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and working to help her develop good house manners.
The new girl is just fine with the senior Springer in her foster home. He mainly tries to ignore her and isn’t much for playing at 12 years old! Pepper was very timid and scared of loud noises and new experiences upon arriving in foster care. She has made great strides in adapting to her new home and neighborhood although she has not warmed up to neighbors yet and barks at them. She loves to be outside and go for walks. At first she ran from passing cars and now she confidently barks at them. She also barks at any people or dogs passed along the way. When she is scared she’ll stop and refuse to go forward. When that happens, her foster mom just turns and goes another way.
She is full of energy, loves to walk and will play catch with a tennis ball endlessly in the house! She’s also sweet and cuddly.
Pepper went to the vet, did very well and enjoyed meeting the office staff. She was groomed while in her former home and reportedly did well.
This full of pep pup would love a home with a fenced-in yard. Working with Pepper to help her overcome her fears will also be essential for her adoptive family. They will need to continue to build her confidence and expose her to new experiences. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, Pepper’s forever home will be required to enroll her in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption
