Update 2/11/05:
Penny is in a MAESSR foster home because her owner, a MAESSR volunteer, recently passed away She has been well cared for, well fed, and if anything, health wise, could benefit from losing a few pounds. As a tricolor she has a few tan patches on her face which give her character and a few tan areas on her fanny.
She absolutely loves looking out the window. She is not destructive and seems content to sit and watch the birds, even if that means climbing onto the kitchen table to see out into the yard! Going out into the yard to run and explore is even better. Penny does great at the dog park and loves the freedom to run and chase after the other dogs.
This sweetheart lived with three male springers in her previous home. She tends to have a low growl when she’s not happy about something, but she shows no aggression at all. It is simply her way of showing displeasure. She gets along well with the two male resident springers. It was reported that she had some dominance issues with certain females, but her foster family has seen no evidence of this so far. She has been left alone loose in the house with the other two springers and there have been no problems at all. She has not been crated in her foster home as there has not been any reason to do so. Her owner did not crate her either.
Penny has been through an obedience class and taken some agility classes. She is a very well behaved and active springer who lives up to the term “Velcro dogâ€. She loves to be with her people and will jump onto a lap or settle beside someone on the couch to get attention if she’s ignored. She will get on the bed and will sleep there if allowed. She was lucky enough to be very spoiled in her previous home and wants someone to treat her like the princess she is. She would do well as an addition in a home with other dogs or could probably be content as an “only” dog as long as she got lots of attention. Either way she’s ready for an adopting family who will love and cherish her in the way she’s accustomed to for the rest of her days.
Original:
Penny is a stray that was found by another rescue. MAESSR took her in because Springer energy is a bit much for the uninitiated. She is a very good girl who sticks to people – your classic Velcro dog. She does need to learn basic manners, but she is young and that will come.
Penny will growl when you get near her toys. This is a bad habit that she has been allowed to develop. Her foster mom is working on changing that. However, we can’t place her in a home with younger children.
Penny will have to be taken to obedience classes. She will be spayed before being placed.
