Update 07/10/2016:“As long as Peggy is kept on this eating program she should not have any problems.”
Peggy continues to do great since her bladder stone removal. A stone analysis was performed, and a recommendation for continued care was made by the veterinarian who cared for Peggy with a quote below:
“Peggy’s stone analysis came back–100% struvite. I recommend keeping her on Royal Cain SO for at least 6 months. If she is doing well at that point you MAY be able to wean her off but I would recommend monitoring her urine closely for crystal/stone formation and for infection. Given the number of stones she had, though, it’s probably best just to keep her on the SO diet.”
As long as Peggy is kept on this eating program she should not have any problems. Even though she most likely will always limp, it does not stop this little girl from wanting to go for walks, car rides, or whatever her people are doing. So Miss Peggy is ready for her forever home, for anyone out there ready for a special little girl. You would receive in return unending love, kisses, cuddles…and protection from those horrible things on the TV set!
Original: “She does NOT like dog commercials. The television dogs don’t even need to bark; Peggy just needs to see them. Then, she rushes to the TV barking and dancing around on her hind legs until the dog is gone.”
Peggy found herself in a shelter in North Carolina when her family discovered she had bladder stones and they could not afford the operation she needed. One of MAESSR’s volunteers discovered her and knew that no other rescue would take her because of the money needed for her care. So, our Foster Coordinator was asked if we couldn’t help this little girl. MAESSR came to her rescue immediately!
Within days of coming to MAESSR, Peggy had her surgery to remove the bladder stones and for a couple of days she was doing okay, but she would not eat. She was taken back to the veterinarian that same week and it was discovered her bladder had developed a hole. So, she had to have another surgery. After a few days in the veterinary hospital, she returned to her foster home and has not stopped improving daily since then.
Miss Peggy is doing great now and is enjoying her foster home and the other foster dogs there. Though very independent, she does interact with them from time to time. Full of fun and personality, this little girl loves everyone and is always ready for a walk or to be involved in whatever is going on around her.
Quite the little character, Peggy does have a really big issue with the television or rather what is on it from time to time. She does NOT like dog commercials. The television dogs don’t even need to bark; Peggy just needs to see them. Then, she rushes to the TV barking and dancing around on her hind legs until the dog is gone. Whew! Such hard work for such a little girl! But, never mind. With her barking and dancing she has brought another dog in line and has run it off. Her foster mom figures this little ball of fun must be watching TV with one eye all the time.
Her foster Mom finds this behavior hysterical and also interesting, as Peggy doesn’t care about live dogs going by the fenced yard. Nor does she bark at dogs she runs across on walks or car rides. She is on interesting little one. Peggy has definite opinions about cats, too. She does NOT like cats and will bark and chase them; however, when they stop, she does also and just barks at them.
Peggy’s house manners are excellent! She is completely housetrained and will go to the door when she needs to go out. If no one notices, she will come stand in front of you and do a little bark to get your attention. She is a bit of a beggar when there is food involved, but after being told a couple of times, she will go away and watch from her bed– just in case something gets dropped! She does like a clean floor!
This little girl will make a great family dog or a companion for a single person. She is easy to get along with and is a source of constant entertainment. Peggy should be ready to go to a forever home soon, so check back often.
