Original: “Peanut is a wonderful dog and, if we didn’t have 4 dogs, we would adopt him in a heartbeat.” Yes, Peanut has made a great impression with his foster family! He is probably one of the sweetest dogs they have fostered. Peanut thinks he is a lap dog and butts right in when his foster parents are giving another dog attention. His canine siblings know there is plenty of love to go around, so he fits in with the resident pack of Springers with no problem. The resident cats aren’t as welcoming and only come in at night when he is crated. Though he probably just wants to sniff to make their acquaintance, Peanut chases them when they run, he should probably only consider cat-free homes!
When his original owner didn’t have enough time to give Peanut, he was relegated to the yard. Eventually he was surrendered to a shelter in western Pennsylvania and from there became a MAESSR dog. He’s being treated for 2 minor health issues, an upper respiratory infection and infected ears. The ears have cleared up and only need regular cleaning to keep them that way. Peanut appears long legged but needs to add about 10 pounds, per his vet, so once filled out, he will be quite handsome. He’s eating 2-3 times a day toward that end and one of his favorite treats are bananas. He tested just a bit anemic for which the vet recommended a multivitamin with iron and a retest in a month.
Peanut is totally housebroken and goes to the back door when it’s time to go out. He’s crate trained, comes when called, and is fine on a leash. When left alone with the resident dogs, he has free run of the house with no problem. He will counter surf but only if there is a tempting smell. There has been no mouthing and no problem when he is eating around people. Peanut is a kisser and a Velcro dog. Though he has not met children since in his foster home, his foster dad feels he would probably be suitable for school age children.
Running is Peanut’s favorite activity and likely contributes to his lean profile. A fenced yard safely contains him at his foster home. Most of the time he has a bone in his mouth when he’s on the fly. He doesn’t dig but will “bury” his bones under leaves. It’s pretty funny to watch him do this! His favorite toy is anything that squeaks. Peanut is an accomplished traveler, having recently gone cross state with his family without one single bark. He loves to be brushed and handled.
The only thing Peanut needs in his life now is a family who will make him an active part of their life. He’s put puppyhood behind him, is well socialized, and just coming into his prime. What a great time to begin a forever relationship with a Springer. What a great dog to love for a lifetime.
