Poor Payton was surrendered to a Delaware shelter when his family was advised by their landlord that they could no longer have a dog. Briefly, he was adopted out from the shelter but he was returned quickly for chasing the resident cat. Upon his return the shelter contacted MAESSR. Payton is a beautiful boy and a real sweetheart that will be very much loved by a new owner. He is in good health, except for a short term problem with his ears. They are being treated with medication after being flushed out by the vet. He is micro-chipped and groomed.
In his foster home, Payton gets along great with the 2 resident Springers and loves everyone that enters the door. You can take anything out of his mouth and touch him all over. His surrendering family reported that he lived with small children down to 2 years of age and was great with them. His foster mom feels he would probably love a family with children for him to play with and who would give him the attention he seems to be starved for. She is also thinking he is too active for most toddlers and feels children he plays with regularly should be 5 or older.
Payton is a typical bouncy 2-year-old that wants to play and be loved. He has high energy and needs lots of exercise. He has a very cute personality and is lots of fun to watch as he explores new things. That said, exploring may include counter surfing, stealing socks, etc. He will get in the trash and likes to chew paper and candy wrappers if he can get them. He will jump up on you when wanting attention. He has a real sense of humor and delights in jumping on beds. As you can imagine, his foster family is beginning to reshape many of Payton’s behaviors and he is progressing well. His adopting family should be ready to pick up right where they leave off.
When Payton first began riding in the back of the station wagon with his foster mom, he barked but, in less than a week, he was already improved on that. He was crated when he first arrived, but he now has run of the house, except for the living room, and doesn’t bother anything. He plays with the resident dogs in the den and can roughhouse all he wants there as it is dog proof.
Payton is very playful and loves all toys. He was very afraid and nervous the day his foster family got him but he adjusted quickly with the help of the resident dogs and his foster family. He has begun bonding with this family and will very likely bond easily with his adoptive family. He is a real beauty and anyone would be proud to own him. Who could possibly resist his freckles??
Payton may be the perfect pick for a family who is ready for a fun dog and a dog who will make them his very own in a short time. More on Payton soon.
