Payton came into a shelter in western Pennsylvania as a stray. At that time, it was reported that he had a wound on his back and hips that had maggots attached. It is not known how the injury occurred. The shelter provided the necessary veterinary care. By the time he arrived in his foster home, the wound had healed and his fur is now growing in over the spot. When touched on the back, Payton tightens up. His foster mom spends time each day rubbing his hips, and, he appears to be relaxing more to touch.
Payton has a beautiful face. His fur is soft and fuzzy, almost puppy like, and he has huge paws. He weighs about 45 pounds. He travels well, having slept the whole 7 hour trip from shelter to foster home. He went to the groomer and was reported to be calm and cooperative. It is not known how he would get along with cats.
Neither the shelter nor his foster mom see any signs of food aggression in Payton. He will allow his food bowl to be taken away while he is eating. He allows his foster mom to remove toys from his mouth, open his mouth, or clean his ears without any problem.
Payton is a love bug with people. He loves to lean on a person and will roll over for belly rubs. He has been around kids as young as 7 and is playful and cuddly. He has gone to work with his foster mom and has met many new people, all of whom hugged and petted him.
Payton will walk on leash beside one of the resident female dogs. He is fine when nose to nose with all the dogs in his foster home through the pen fence. However, he does not want any dog to move to his side or behind him. When they do, he growls a warning at them to back off. He has shown signs of wanting to play with them, but once they move around him, he becomes upset. His foster mom is working to help desensitize Payton around other dogs, but in the long run, she feels he will be great for a family wanting a one dog household.
One look at this baby face boy makes people fall in love with him. Do you have room in your home to make him your top dog?
