Panama is an adorable, stocky bench boy who was relinquished to MAESSR when his Pennsylvania owner encountered serious health concerns and could no longer care for him. Upon entering his foster home’s backyard, Panama greeted a resident kitty with a quick sniff and introduced himself to his two canine foster sisters. The three made fast friends and were soon bounding, wrestling, and running all around the yard.
Inside, it became clear that Panama would need a quick refresher course on house manners. Although he stays off furniture, he couldn’t resist taking a peek at what was up on the kitchen island. He also had a few incidents of marking in the house. Thankfully, after a few days of consistent reinforcement of the house rules, Panama has become a model guest.
This smart boy knows “sit,” “shake,” and “lay down.” He is also quick to respond when told to “kennel up.” Panama is crated at night and when his foster parents are away. He protested a little the first night but, since then, he has been content to curl up and sleep or chew a Nylabone. At night, his foster parents close the door to his crate without locking it, and, Panama waits to be let out in the morning.
Panama enjoys riding in the car but, for everyone’s safety, he needs to be in a crate or use a safety harness. He has great leash manners, pulling a little at the start of a walk but settling quickly when corrected. For a young boy, Panama has a moderate energy level. He enjoys his playtime but his energy needs are easily met. Then he is content to settle on a blanket on the floor while his foster family relaxes at night.
One of Panama’s best features is his fantastic Springer butt-wiggle! Just making eye contact across the room gets his docked tail wagging and, if you say his name or tell him he’s a good boy, watch out! He’s got a wiggle that goes halfway up his back and it makes his foster mom smile every time!
This guy would make a great addition to any Springer-loving home. Kids, cats, other dogs – Panama loves them all! If someone in his forever home is up for giving him plenty of ear rubs and bear hugs, all the better. If you’re looking for an easy-going mellow fellow to make your family complete, your search may be over.
