Original: A shelter in eastern Pennsylvania was overflowing with dogs, so they contacted MAESSR about Owen, a young springer. His foster dad is a pilot with Air Springer and Owen is a great co-pilot. On their flight to New Jersey, Owen was sleeping before they got 1000 feet in the air! He rides very well in the car, also.
Owen is chock full of energy. He wants to play with the resident springer and cocker, but they really just think he is a punk kid and can’t be bothered with him. Owen loves his walks. He is good on the leash and doesn’t pull, but he certainly does not heel. He probably has never had any basic training, but his foster family is working on that. Owen jumps on people sometimes, mostly due to excitement, but he is already improving.
His foster family is introducing Owen to the crate. Although reluctant to go in the crate initially, Owen spent the first night there with no problems at all. He is very responsive to training and voice tones. He will train easily once given the repetition and practice needed by a dog to learn. His foster family thinks Owen is housebroken, but he has not been tested for more than four hours at this point. He has had a few marking accidents in the house which should diminish with settling. The only caveat to Owen’s behavior is that he is a chewer. He does try occasionally to get on the furniture but stays off when reminded. His foster family also reminds him that, just because he “hangs ten” on the counters better than anyone, does not mean that he should do this.
His foster family sees nothing wrong with Owen that love and attention won’t fix. Everyone who meets Owen falls in love with him. He will make some family very happy; he just needs to learn some manners first. After his foster family puts him through boot camp there in Galloway, NJ, he will be ready to fly into your life
