This ADORABLE Springer male was born on March 14, 2003, and his name is Owen. He was one of 3 puppies surrendered to MAESSR on June 29, 2003. Since arriving at his foster home, Owen has been a constant source of energy and entertainment! He is a typical puppy with typical puppy habits; eat, sleep, play, eat more, sleep more, play, play, play more! He gets along very well with the other two adult springers in his foster home. In fact, the adult female has adopted him as her own. She tries to carry him by the neck and is frequently seen fawning over him. The adult male in the foster home loves Owen’s playful nature, and they are always competing for squeaky toys, and playing tug-o-war.
He is absolutely the spitting image of his dad, Buster 7. Buster’s pictures were posted, and they look so much alike. Owen has BIG feet as well, and I’m sure he’s going to be the spitting image of his dad. Owen’s little head looks just like his dad’s, even the freckles on his nose!
At first, it seemed that Owen would be a very quiet and submissive puppy. But, once he became comfortable in his surroundings, he was completely liberated! He is a vocal dog and will bark as new people enter the house. He will also bark if the other dogs leave him (e.g. if they go downstairs without him, Owen will stand on the top step and bark). He can definitely stand up for himself. Owen is inquisitive, and he appears to be a very smart boy. He responds well to correction and will come when he is called (although it may take a little prompting on occasion). As most puppies do, he has tried to steal shoes, towels, socks, etc., and he has shown a liking for electrical cords! With a stern “NO”, followed by a quick “trade up” (exchanging the item for one of his favorite toys), he seems to be distinguishing between good things to chew and bad things to chew. But, we’re still working on it.
Housetraining is also a work in progress. He is reliable about pooping outside, but, inside, he will stop on the throw rugs for an occasional dribble. By carefully timing food and water consumption, the accidents have diminished somewhat.
He will sleeps through most of the night. If he goes to bed between 10-11pm, he will wake up anytime between 3-5 am. And, since the other dogs in the foster home sleep on the bed, he has begun sharing this routine with them (and he LOVES to cuddle!).
During the 4th of July holiday, Owen was the center of attention. He was around children between the ages of 10 months – 13 years. They loved him, and he was delighted with all the attention and petting he received. Also, the loud fireworks didn’t disturb him at all. He barely stopped playing long enough to notice.
Owen is a beautiful, sweet and smart little boy with a whole heart full of love to give. He will undoubtedly bring joy and happiness to some lucky family.
