Update 07/06/12: Oreo has done very well in his foster home. Whatever his foster family is doing, he loves being right in the middle of it……especially if it involves water! Oreo follows his foster dad around like he was attached to him. This is one sweet, cuddly boy.
Oreo came to MAESSR as a result of an accident. He was sleeping on the bed with the father of the family when the older child, who Oreo generally slept with, came in to get him. He reached down and picked up Oreo which startled him awake. Oreo’s startled reaction was a nip to the face, which required stitches. Oreo had never done anything like this in the past, and the family’s vet felt that it was just a startle response and not an intentional “bite.” MAESSR agreed with that evaluation.
Now residing in his foster home for several weeks, Oreo has been tested by his foster mom in every way she can think of, and he has been perfect. Her conclusion: Oreo is a wonderful boy!!! Foster dad is making a bid for Oreo to stay, but foster mom says NO…….he is going to find a great MAESSR home.
Oreo is just as sweet as his name. He will make a wonderful addition to a very lucky family.
Original:
When his New Jersey family was no longer able to keep him, Oreo became a MAESSR boy. He is adjusting well to foster care after showing some anxiety for the first few days.
Oreo is housetrained and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He stays in a crate at night and it is obvious that he would rather not be in one. Regardless, he walks right into his crate like a true gentleman with sad eyes but no arguing. Oreo does not beg for food or counter-surf. He knows the commands “sit” and “down,” and is learning “stay” and how to walk on a loose lead.
Eager to please and very lovable, Oreo “talks” with his tongue. He is much fonder of the humans in the house than the dogs, but favors the dogs when outside since they run faster! He hasn’t shown any interest in balls or fetching so far. As he becomes more comfortable, that may change. As soon as he got out of the car and discovered the pool, Oreo went swimming. He loves the water!
Watch for more information on this boy as he settles into his foster home.
