Update 01/18/2025: “Sweet, petite, and affectionate Ollie had a bumpy start to his life and would like to begin his new one with a family willing to put in the effort to help him become the best Springer boy he can be.”
Ollie is now ready to find his forever home but has a few requirements. His foster mom believes that he was never really given much opportunity to bond to a human and this should be an important part of his new life. As such, he needs to find a home where he will be the only dog, with an owner who will not allow Ollie to think that he is in charge. Having a job, like agility work, would be great for Ollie, also.
Ollie will require two rounds of obedience training within six months of adoption, which will help with the human-canine bond. He is beginning medication to assist with anxiety and transitions in his life; the medication will need to be continued for a minimum of six months after adoption.
Sweet, petite, and affectionate Ollie had a bumpy start to his life and would like to begin his new one with a family willing to put in the effort to help him become the best Springer boy he can be.
Original: “Although not previously crate trained, Ollie is learning that the crate is a safe place and he is getting more comfortable using it. “
Ollie found himself on his way to MAESSR when a family member realized Ollie wasn’t being cared for properly by his New York owner who was ill. When he arrived at his foster home, Ollie was severely underweight as a result of his previous neglect. As a MAESSR boy, a better life is in his future.
Ollie is housetrained and goes to the back door to signal his need to go out. Although not previously crate trained, Ollie is learning that the crate is a safe place and he is getting more comfortable using it. Foster mom feels that the crate is a great tool to help Ollie with boundaries. Ollie is fed in his crate with a slow-feed bowl and is also in his crate at nighttime as well as when foster mom is out of the house. When she is home, Ollie is loose in the house along with the resident dogs and cats.
This super smart boy really wants to please his foster mom. Ollie knows basic commands like “sit” and “come” and he rarely jumps up. He and his foster mom are working to improve his leash skills. Since the dogs in his foster home are not allowed in the kitchen, it is unknown if he would counter-surf or get into trash. There has been no inappropriate chewing with this good boy.
Ollie gets along famously with the resident dogs and he can often be found snuggling with them on the couch or dog beds. He is not so comfortable with the resident cats but has not been aggressive towards them—just cautious and rather fearful.
Ollie is medium to high energy but is well-behaved in the house. He engages in play with all the resident dogs and loves meeting new people and dogs. He is great in the car but will bark at cars or people next to him.
Ollie has shown no issues with his food or toys; however, he doesn’t appreciate when the resident dogs/or other humans approach his foster mom when she is relaxing on the couch. Due to this, Ollie is not allowed on the couch where his foster mom relaxes. Foster mom hopes as Ollie develops a sense of confidence and trust this behavior will soon disappear. He is learning basic boundaries and rules that he was lacking in his original home. Ollie is learning that his foster mom is in control so he can sit back and relax.
Ollie has not been to the vet or groomer yet due to the holidays, but foster mom doesn’t see either as being an issue as she can touch him everywhere.
Ollie is a sweet and affectionate little boy. His dream home could be with or without other dogs as long as he is exercised properly. Ollie’s forever home would be with someone who wants to include Ollie in their daily life and adventures while continuing his training and learning boundaries. This love bug will make a wonderful companion.
